Battery - Yuasa or Bosch

I'm needing a new battery and trying to decide between the Yuasa HSB5053 and Bosch S4 021. There's some conflicting information on the forum regarding whether the terminals on the Yuasa are too narrow for the clamps - this thread suggests they aren't, but this thread suggests they are.

Ideally I'd like to go for the Yuasa as it has a longer warranty and higher CCA, but from what I've read it seems a bit hit or miss whether the terminals are the correct size for the Type R.

1. Is there a difference between the Yuasa HSB5053 and YBX5053?

2. Is the Bosch S4 021 definetly the right one for a 2009 Type R? Eurocarparts doesn't appear to stock the S4 021 at all. When I enter my registration it recommends the S4 158 or S4 159 which from what I've read on the forum, don't seem to be right for the Type R

Unless there is a stupid price difference why not get OEM one from a Honda dealer - have you tried Cox Motor Parts on the forum?

I second this as for sure they last well enough so I see no reason to buy aftermarket

I bought the Yuasa YBX3053 SMF Starter Battery off Amazon after reading various threads on here, Honda changed supplier for a while and the Yuassa was 53.

both are good and i'd have no quarms with either - down to price i think. was going to also say panasonic but seem their battery division has been bought by yuasa.
genuine honda would likely be one of these big-boy brands anyway, with the dealer premium added on.

I've heard several peeps here say that the cost of a battery from their Honda dealer was surprisingly low. Worth a gander I reckon.

Its the YB5053 thats on mine(with the small terminals) and its what I will be replacing it with when the time comes, from looking around its a bigger Amp and CCA and has a better warranty than the OEM battery for next to nothing extra.

It is what they charged me at the dealer and matches the Honda webprice.
I just can't be doing with some jobs on the car, this is one of them.

I bought a Yuasa YBX5053 for 69.95 in Oct 2017. Don't know whether it was me not tightening the clamps enough but about 3 months into ownership my car just started flashing up the EML and then eventually cutting out. Turned out the clamps were loose on the posts. The AA guy who diagnosed it just tightened them really well and had no problems since. They are a smaller post than the standard battery so just make extra sure you tighten them really well.

Just thought I'd update with some info that may be useful if anyone is in the same situation...

OEM battery on my 2009 FN2 was a Furukawa. No idea what the specs of this are as I can't see them written on the battery. In the end I went for a Bosch S4. Euro Car Parts lists both the S4 158 and S4 159 as being compatible with the FN2. The 158 is the correct one. The 159 has the terminals the wrong way round (Positive on the left, Negative on the right - as you look at the battery, with the large edge with the terminals on closest to you).

From what I can gather, 158 is the type of battery and 021 is the Bosch part number - the 158 battery I ordered has "S4 021" written on the label - if you enlarge the image on Euro Car Parts, you can see this.

The terminals are a little more raised on the OEM Furukawa than the Bosch - there's a little plastic raised bit before the terminal starts which the Bosch doesn't have. As a result, I had to remove the big plastic cover that fits over the battery (the large black cover that goes around and over the whole battery, not the terminal covers). There were no issues tightening the clamps though, and the Bosch battery fits and works fine.
