Fn2 Starter motor problem?

So the start engine button jammed in this morning due to a gel badge overlay getting stuck which I didn't notice. Car was making a strange noise on way to work and after I noticed that the clock display wasn't working I pressed the engine start button and it came unstuck. Noise stopped and clock came back on. Now when I try to start the car it whines and struggles to start but does eventually start. I've had both the battery and alternator tested and are both fine. So I'm guessing this would be the starter motor failing? Anyone else have any input?

Oh dear, I suspect your starter constantly running has at best mullered the starter motor gear. Requiring a new starter motor.

Worst case the flywheel gear may also now be damaged and also require replacement, which will be a right headache and hurt your wallet

All because of a gel badge #sheesh

Tell me about it. What makes it worse is I had planned to remove the badge after it stuck a couple of days previously but completely forgot.

Pop the started off and see how the gears look on both components.

Good luck.
