Cockpit electronics

Or should I say Cockpit Display. I changed the passenger side headlight bulb today on my FN2., not for the first time. What I did differently this time was take the earth strap off the battery and the body as it gets in the way.

After putting everything back together and checking the lights worked, I locked the car up and had my lunch. Didn't think anything more about it until leaving work and as soon as I turned on the lights, the instrumentation all turns off so you can't see anything. Turn the lights off and it all comes back on again.

What a stupid state of affairs. How can changing a lightbulb have this effect on the dashboard & radio info??

When I got home, I took the new bulb out leaving the connector not connected to anything and turned on the lights again, and the same thing happens.

Trip to the dealer in the morning I think.

Mark

Solved, I hope.

I found an old thread by 'dweezle' about fixing this issue.

Turn on the ignition and turn the dash brightness knob to full brightness. Then turn on the sidelights and turn dash display knob to full brightness again, then turn on headlights and turn dash display knob to full brightness for a third time.

Now turn the headlights off and on again and see if the dash instrumention stays illuminated and doesn't disappear.

What a faff for something that really shouldn't happen in the first place!
