Been offered an FN2 - Is this a good deal?

Hello,

One of my in-laws is trading in an 09 plate (manufactured in 2008 I think) red FN2 which I'm pretty sure is GT spec with 24000 miles on the clock. I think it will have been driven like Miss Daisy and has probably never hit VTEC. They have been offered £8500 and have offered it to me saying I can use my EP3 as their trade. Does this sound like a good deal?

Does anybody know if there were still any issues on 2008 models such as 3rd gear and rusty doors?

Thanks in advance

There's still issues on the new models but nothing drastic the 3rd gear syncro was 07, rust not seen any myself but this has 10yr warranty so wouldnt be a problem. I would go for it as there inlaws you know nothing drastic has happened to it, get rid of the bread van and get it

I've got one of the earlier 07 models and not had any problems with it other than the squeaky clutch as regards the 3rd gear I no that all models wasn't effected but sounds a good buy and on the + side u no how it's been treated

Cheers guys, Had a look on autotrader and similar cars seem to be going for between £10k and £11k. Think I might have to go for it.

Het he 3rd gear syncro issue looked at or test it out your self. If it's nearly a 09 plate it should be still least a 58 plate. It will be much better than your ep3, you won bf disappointed

Went for a look and a test drive this morning and I think I'll be driving an FN2 by the end of March

It is the GT spec with Sat Nav and parking sensors. It's done 27k and it's my girlfriend's Auntie's car. Her Uncle took me out first and then I drove.
It really has been completely unabused. When I hit VTEC he said "I don't know if this is a good or bad thing but it's never done that before" . Her Auntie later said that she'd never been above 80mph (on a private airstrip) in it.

I love the gear change on my EP3 but this felt even slicker and there was no 3rd gear issue. The seats are much comfier and the cabin is generally a much nicer place to be. It feels just as sure footed if not more so than the EP3 and the steering felt more direct. The suspension is firm but it feels as though it is dampened slightly better than the EP3.

I've read that the FN2 throttle response is very good but this seemed to lag slightly in comparison to my EP3. I couldn't figure out whether it was just me though as I know my own car so well and know exactly what to expect when I hit the accelerator.

The brakes didn't seem as good as the EP3 and it pulled slightly to the left when I had to brake hard. I have braided hoses on mine so this may account for it. The FN2 also had new front tyres but they sound like ditch finders; Evergreen? They changed the original potenza's because they were getting a bit low and knew how important tyres were:face palm:

It seemed to carry speed very well but didn't feel as quick as the EP3 even though I have no doubt it was.

There is a slight scuff on the bottom of the front bumper and a bit of scratch on the drivers door. Had a look for rust at the top of the doors but couldn't see any. The bonnet had literally two tiny stone chips.

The icing on the cake (even though I would never call him on it) is that her Uncle said that if I bought it, he would pay for anything that went wrong with it over the next 12 months. He said he was nearly in tears to let it go as a trade in so I think he would feel a lot better if it stayed in the family. Think I'll have to get them both something nice to show my gratitude.

Quite a few have gone from the ep3 to the fn2 and most said they would never make the move and from what I read they didn't realise how fun they are, some said they felt more planted on cornering more spacious inside and lets be honest driving an fn2 you don't come across as an ageing boy racer who refuses to let go of his youth

There's a 58 plate on eBay with 23k on it....he will take £7,600 for it so might be worth looking at that one to.

Does anybody know if the SatNav option has a built in DVD player and if it plays MP3 CD's?

OOCH, with it having little use and even less thrashing, it's possible that the calipers could be sticking a bit, which may explain the pulling under braking. Although you should give it a good once over in case there's any other cause.

Handling wise the FN2 should feel slightly more stable at speed but slightly less supple in corners due to the different rear suspension setup. Ride can be improved with progressive coils.

Also the FN2 is more refined than the EP3, which does make a car feel slower. And you can improve responsiveness by letting it breath easier with a decent induction kit.

It does sound like an absolute bargain! Go for it, you'll love owning it

EDIT: Oh, and the brakes are supposed to be a bit heavy. The thought behind that is to stop you over-braking as your body weight is thrown forward under heavy braking. If you're not keen a pad upgrade will give more bite.

Sounds like it will be a good buy, dont know if it bothers you as it wont have an LSD fitted with it being an 08/09 but you could always install the Wavetrac LSD,as it sounds like your getting a great deal on it. Good luck.
