Exclamation Civic on TV Friday

For information according to Radio Times, Fifth Gear, Channel 5, Friday 9 Dec, 7:30 pm , Jonny Smith test drives the new Civic in southern Spain.

As an aside I think it would be much more relevant to most of us to see a test drive on our mostly crap roads

I was trying not to disappoint everyone, I am yet to read a good review of the 9G, maybe a decent halo "R" model will help lift the model, even better if its at a decent price like the EP3 CTR was at launch, that kicked the competition into touch on price/performance and Honda reliability!

Apart from What Car?, the motoring press reviews have been generally positive.

I dont find these positive:

Honda Civic 1.8 review - Autocar.co.uk

Honda Civic 1.8 i-VTEC EX GT | First Drives | Auto Express

This car is the last to market in the Golf and Focus segment yet fails to steal any lead, that to me is a fail!

I guess i just hoped for a class leader at the prices they are asking!

They are ok reviews. If you'd rather buy a Golf or a Focus, then fair enough.

The prices for most models are pretty much unchanged by the way. It is only the EX models that have been increased.

I remember a whole Honda advert campaign about the use of the word "OK" as being a make do kind of term!.

While we all have opinions, for me the model launch needed the 1.6 diesel to stand a chance and good prices!, I guess the people who wait for that engine (Unless they want a Type R) will be the winners, early addopters wil lose big time!

yeah cos the 9th gens performance, co2's and prices are pants.???

Performance is BETTER, co2's are BETTER and the prices as have been stated already are only really increased on the EX/EX GT grades, the rest are pretty similar to the car they replace yet higher spec.

Honda obviously didnt pay as much as ford or VW for the hotel the press stayed in.

It is not true to say that performance is generally better. It is only the case with 2.2 diesel.

petrol versions will be generally slower and less dynamic and no CTR. partly because of the high gear ratios and partly because of the weight (there is no CTR).

I guess that if you would like to keep up with the 8 gen, you need to get a low-spec 9 gen to save couple of kg's.

gearing maybe, but power overall is up (however small the increase, 2bhp petrol, 10 bhp diesel) and the 9th gen is generally like for like lighter!!!

I wished this paper specs were noticable:

following autocar and 5th gear 2012: 1.8 i-VTEC EX GT: 0-62mph: 9.6sec , so in real life it will be 11 seconds or smth like that (I did not drive it though) -> [email protected]

my long lost 8gen civic 1.8 sport - 0-62mph: ca. 9 sec and some 10,5 sec in real life. -> [email protected]

so it seems: 2bhp more power, and no extra oomph (all power is available at higher revs) - reviews just confirm it. I just won't say frankly that it is more dynamic, faster etc. maybe they are the same. not better though.
