I have the same fault and it has been happening for quite some time but only intermittent. My local garage has not wanted to repair the problem just in case it wasn't the EPS itself causing the fault and spending a vast amount of money for no reason but seeing the Honda report I am more confident that is what it is.

The unit itself costs around 500 from Honda direct but you can get the units on ebay for around the 100 mark.

Does anyone know if these units are plug and play or do they have to be programmed?

Unfortunately they need to be calibrated using the HDS. Buy a clone HDS from ebay and a module and do it yourself for less than the dealer will charge you.
