Having read about the 100mpg record set by a civic tourer back in 2015 I was interested to see what real world numbers members have got with their 1.6 i-dtec

So please post up your experiences of:-

1) Max mileage on a tank
2) Max mpg achieved over a tank of fuel calculated from brim to brim

Don't know about max range per tank but a recent trip from Stoke on Trent to Herts (maybe 150 miles) with lots of enforced 50mph roadworks on the M1 and M6 showed an indicated 70.0mpg

The same run if pushing it to say 80mph would see 58-60mpg so these engines really excel at lower speeds where wind resistance is less and possibly the engine operating in a more efficient rev range.

This is for a Tourer so possibly the hatchback could improve on these figures a bit.

I tend to use my car for normal commuting and not long runs. Did Durham to Hull a year ago which is 130Miles and averaged around 84mpg. Normal tank range during commuting is around 500-550 miles although I never play the minimum range game before refuelling.

Thanks for posts, I definitely think that low 80's is possible with little effort on a longish run, would be interesting to see if anyone has seen higher on a single journey and if so in what conditions

I have heard elsewhere that the range generally drops to zero with the reserve still available (7.5l according to the manual)

I'm really trying to gauge what maximum range is possible, it seems as if 700 is feasible but would like to hear of anyone who has got more before going into the reserve fuel

Getting mid 60's out of mine (according to the iMid) but my commute consists of bendy hill roads at the start/end with 20 odd miles of motorway thereafter.
Far too easy to boot it up the hills >:)

Here's a few tankfuls, from Summer 2018, when I drove the NC500 in my tourer:-
I reckon I could get 700 miles at this rate.
Currently getting low 60s on the winter commute and I no longer use the eco mode.

My best fill to fill so far is 78.21 mpg. All manual calculations as computer usually well off. Have seen 100mpg once according to computer but real world was in the 70's.

This was my fortnight holiday last year so A/C on and car full of bags(boot full) & 2 chairs for a airshow. You can see difference between actual and what computer saying.

My best so far.

If only computer 100% true.

@Red Dwarf, is the computer really that far out? 100 indicated -> 70's actual is well out

Still some impressive numbers, what sort of run did you do for the 100 indicated? Distance, speed etc?

The actual computer reading was 69.1 mpg at fill up. With a real life result of 62.41 mpg after 463 miles fill to fill. That 100 was the computers actual instant read, she was warmed up already and after a pit stop I'd joined the middle of a 50 zone on the motorway so was bumbling along in fifth or sixth with my tank over half empty. Unfortunately to much slowing and speeding up by traffic caused me to loose it as I was trying to get it higher
My longest run without fuelling was 691 miles when I got 74.49 mpg. Trip computer said 78.2. And still it only took 42.17 litres so possibly 800 plus tank that day.
I find motorway hauls give better accuracy between computer and real life against short trips were the difference can be 7 mpg over by the computer.

Ah ok got ya. Also that seems to confirm what I have read about the reserve being after range gets to 0, never understand why manufacturers do that but hey ho ?

Have you noticed much difference winter to summer?

Never had 80 but had close too on quite a few occasions. My commute, 30 mile each way consists mostly of A Roads and Dual Carriageway and would say easily getting about 74mpg. That's doing 60 on the A Roads and about 65ish on Dual Carriageway. YEs, I can drive Miss Daisy, give me a company or hire car though and the gear doesn't get changed till the rev needle is in the red >:) Why rag your own motor though :wink3:

As they demonstrated on Top Gear a while back, Hire Cars are the fastest cars in the world and hence the reason I'd never buy an Ex Hire motor.

Mpg drops off during winter. I'm convinced a car likes warm days and not cold days for better mpg.
Winter.

its easy to get the CURRENT DRIVE reading nice and high it could be over a short drive with lot of down hill running
my drive home from work is about 4 min drive and easily goes over 80mpg on current drive but trip a reading is usually high 50's to low/mid 60mpg

I believe the highest I ever managed to get was 64 Mpg, that was about 560 miles between fill-ups.
Everyday driving - 34 Miles (~28 Miles down the motorway) both directions, I usually get 52 - 55 Mpg. This really depends on my mood lol.

Climate control: Always on Auto, ECON off.

The absolute worst I ever managed to get was 48, I did about 420 miles on a full tank...

I'm relatively new to honda, had my 1.6d since Sept ~ 8k miles so far..

I have a 120 mile round trip commute, mostly A road dual carriage way; taking it easy on this i can regularly get mid-70s mpg on the computer. It's not hard to do, just stick to 65ish mph, econ on, no harsh accel or braking.

Overall best mpg for a full tank (measured manually, not the car) is 77mpg ~ 726 miles for the full tank.

Unfortunately shorter journeys and running fully loaded (family + two dogs, roof box, luggage etc) or driving quicker pulls the average down so my overall average since i got the car is 67mpg.

I find the computer reads about 3-4 mpg over reality.
@Red Dwarf - what's that app you're using?

Road Trip. There is a free version and a paid. If you upgrade it just migrates everything so no data loss.

Cheers red dwarf may check that out

So first full tank I had to fill before range was down to zero because of upcoming journeys. 605 miles and took 41.63l to refill to brim, 88 miles on range still

Equates to calculated 66 versus an indicated 70.8 on the computer

Going to try eco mode off and driving normally on next tank to see if it varies much

700 miles def seems possible when temp warms up a bit but think the 100 mpg is pie in the sky stuff haha

Only had my 9G for about 5 weeks now so perhaps not driving it as well as I could. I always reset trip and do a full tank - pushed my 1st tank to 8 miles remaining on computer, was around 43 litres @ 66mpg, 560 miles. Hoping it smashes the 600 a tank mark once the weather warms up.

So has anyone driven carefully enough or had big enough balls to eat into the reserve to out-do rob.e's 726? ?

Had mine a month now first couple weeks were really poor
Got a improvement when I filled up and used some redex
But I still only got 460 miles with 50 left
Think I put in 42 ltrs
Which I work out around 55mpg my car was showing 56.7 mpg on the tank best I saw was 63mpg after about 150 miles
