Hello,

I started a thread earlier about reliability. Im off to garage to test drive the 1.4 now but read a lot of reviews saying performance is terrible. Looking closer the 1.8 may be the better option.

Its slightly worse MPG but only £20 annualy more VED and a grp 16 insurance compare to a 1.4 at grp 8. All these are still less than my crappy Zafira SRI 150.

I then noticed the 1.8TI with bluetooth & 17" wheels for only £500 more than the 1.4 SE.

Anyone got one? They are apparently limited, are there any left does anyone know? Any pictures of them?

Also if anyone has a 1.8 can you reply with some fuel consuptions please :)

EDIT - We only do max 7000 miles per year so think the petrol is best option for us.

i got 1.8 .
summer im get 39 mpg . just under 40 mpg . even with a few red liners at traffic lights.
in winter i get 32-36mpg .
i have knn panel filter.

i got honda hft , its ok but better off with a parrot system i have to add numbers in manually to the cars phone book . on the newer face lift it will automaticaly grab the numbers from your phone i believe.

. alloys i am not sure . i just got 17" ex allows with mine .

Would better than 42mpg on rural a roads and the odd dual carriageway run be possible.

Our Zafira 1.9CDTI gets 39 -41mpg and we are looking to better that if possible.

Update, the ti looks lovely but it doesn't qualify for the 1500 contribution and also the £600 worth of free servicing.

Drove the 1.4 and have mixed feelings. Urban drive mixed with some hilly rural seemed to be getting 35mpg but I only reset it half way round. Totally different to my current diesel which doesn't need many revs.

Looks like we may head for the 1.8 se and are going back to drive that this weekend. That should give me more power when I want to rev it but also enough low down to keep up with traffic.

Great if people could give me an idea of real life mpg figured on 1.8s and 1.4s please.

My local dealer doing its own version of Ti. Based on the 'ES' not the 'SE' its badged as a Ti +. £20000.

My Mk8 1,8 so far averaged from new 39mpg after 9000 miles. The Mk9 gives better mpg according to Honda. But bottom line is how heavy and active your right boot is.

Reliability wise, so far 1 problem regarding satnav (pioneer) destroying the clock display, the problem is now built out on the factory floor. Otherwise nothing, compared to my ex Mk7 Fiesta this is an angel.

I had a 9g 1.4 for just over a month whilst my 8g was in for repair and did 1100 miles.

Over that 1100 miles it averaged 42mpg on 50% dual carriageway and 50% country roads.

My conclusion was that:

The 1.4 is not suited to hilly areas at all. North Wales is not made for the 1.4!
It would maintain high speeds on the motorway on all but the most hilly sections.
Given my 1.8 8g averaged 38mpg over the same roads 42mpg was not good enough given the poor performance

The car had done 15 miles when I picked it up and fuel consumption was getting better as it did more miles.

It was a lovely car though. They have sorted the ride, stereo, fit and finish is better etc.

Have you considered a diesel?? I have the 2.2 ES-T. It's superb. Very fast and I'm getting 68 mpg on my mostly motorway commute.

But how much more is the diesel in the first place. Reason I mention this is that I am tempted to trade in my 8th gen diesel for a 9th gen Civic. Thing is, the eg Ti is £17,500 - quite a bit cheaper than the diesel! Plus the road tax is now the same as my diesel.

Thinking I'd miss the performance of the diesel though....

I have the 1.8. I get around 32.9mpg sub urban in summer dropping to 29.5mpg in winter.

On the kind of roads you are describing, 42mpg should be possible. On holiday in Cornwall on a combination of fast A roads (doing around 50 mph) and local roads I've seen 42mpg.

In London traffic in freezing teperatures I am unable to better 23mpg with my petrol 1.8.

My new 9th gen 1.8 uses 8.8 liters/100km (that is around 26 mpg) in winter conditions, mostly heavy traffic. The computer shows 9.4 though. I calculated it based on how much fuel got in after driving a given distance.

I'd never opt for 1.4. This engine would be OK in a Jazz/Fit but not in a Civic. I suppose, overtaking with this thing under the bonnet must be a pain but,of course, it depends on the person who drives it, I guess. For city driving only, it might be sufficient.

Ti mpg

Just picked up my Ti and am loving it. mpg around town in freezing conditions with 150miles on the clock is returning 30mpg. It's quicker,quieter and smoother than my last 3 civics. 7th and 8th gen.;)

With my 1.8Si mk8 I also got a return of 30mpg after 115 miles. Engine tight yet, it will soon start to improve.


Sent whilst plotting to take over the world.
