Ok so i know a fair bit about wheels ect but im hoping someone will clarify what im thinking is correct.

Im currently running on 19's and wanting to change to 18's. With my bbk i know with an 18x8 wheel im going to need an offset around ET35/40. So the wheels im looking at getting which are 18x8.5, this would mean they stick outwards an extra half an inch right? so thats around 12mm, so would this mean choosing an offset of around ET45 so they'd be like 18x8's with ET33 right? Sounds confusing, but if they stick out further already, then i dont need an ET35, more a 45? Hope someone can help ;)

Yes, correct. The wider the wheel the more clearance for a BBK if offsets are the same.

example:
with 8.5 +44 the outside of the wheel will extend 24mm further out than OEM
with 8.0 +37 the outside of the wheel will also extend 24mm further out than OEM.

Spoke design however matters more than offsets and widths regarding BBK clearance.

ET35 is the offset from the centerline.

So the wheel will only stick out half of the extra width or 0.5" / = 0.25" (6mm)
So if you have et35 8"... et40 8.5" will stick out the same.

Hmmm so i was pretty much right, other than its measured from the centre of the wheel so the extra half an inch is spread between the inner and out so only sticks out a quarter of an inch towards the wheel arches. Gonna need an ET of 40 or 45 i think. Thanks for the help guys :)

I understand you dont wanna give away the secret...but i really would like to know what wheels and what fitment you are getting, and what BBK they are going to clear, im currently looking at some new alloys and im curious to what others run to clear BBK and not rub on the arches, and does your car have a drop ?

Well im currently running on 19's with an offset of ET45 with a 3mm spacer to clear the BBK. I've got the stoptech BBK, fitment is always the same - 5x114.3. The new wheels im looking at will be an offset of around ET40 coz theyre 18x8.5 wheels so it'll be the same as ET35 wheels if they were 18x8 :) Im lowered -15mm, hope this helps
