Ive had a rattle on the heat shield that's above the rear exhaust box on my 2.2, after inspection I see that both bottom fixings are shot. After trying to repair with washers, I see that all the fixing are shot to ****. So ive ripped the thing off the car.
Do I need to replace this shield, or is it safe to carry on without it???

Rip it off and bin it. Or if you want to be environmentally friendly, take it to your local recycling centre the next time you're passing. Problem solved ;)

I've just had the same problem myself. Local :honda: dealer recommended replacing it, if you still have an OEM rear silencer.

But then they would, wouldn't they ?

Guess it was fitted for a reason in the first place.

However, if you have an aftermarket exhaust, like the Martellius, which has a much reduced diameter rear silencer, then I really don't think it's necessary.

Apparently is a common fault with older models.

Ripped mine off and took it down the recyling centre...
