My 2.2 CDTI Civic has just ticked over 215,000 miles and I can honestly say it's been the most reliable car I've ever had! :grin2:

I've owned it since around 100,000 miles and use it every day. I work closer to home now, so gone are the days of 20,000 miles per year, but it just keeps going!

It's still on the original turbo, injectors, dampers, suspension bushes, air con pump, wheel bearings....by 220,000 miles my previous 2002 Golf 150PD had needed all of those replacing.

In my ownership, other than the expected consumables and service items, it's needed:

  • A replacement clutch (but still on original DMF)
  • A boot leak fixing (it was the common crack at the back of the roof gutters)
  • A flash of the ECU to clear a stuttering fault
  • Front drop links and ARB bushes
  • An ABS sensor
  • The DIY fix for the folding mirrors

That's it!

I get the occasional "P2004 Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open" error every 3-6 months, but just clear it with a bluetooth OBD2 reader.

In terms of servicing, it's always been to Honda to get the book stamped (for £20/month for servicing with a courtesy car and free fuel why not) but for other niggles and annoyances and things like ARB bushes, pads & discs, I fix those myself and this forum is a great resource.

In the summer on a long motorway run I can see 54-58 MPG. In the winter on short runs it's more like 42-45 MPG. (Compare that to my Dad's 2017 1.0-litre Petrol Civic, he see's MPG in the 30's on a mixed run!) The 2.2 diesel torque is great for towing.

Anyone with higher miles care to let me know what I might expect as we approach 250,000 miles? :grin2:

I'm roughly 2 years off 200k - currently on 145k. Following done so far since 64k:

1. Rear discs twice. Rear pads three times.
2. Front discs once. Front pads three times.
2. All 4 x shocks
3. Anti-roll bar links and one top mount carrier.
4. Aircon / clock centre screen - resolder due to missing / jumbled characters.
5. Clutch and flywheel still awaiting fitting.
6. May need a new exhaust manifold :crying: - waiting for CO detector to confirm

Unlike petrol engines, there's hardly any CO in diesel exhaust. So take a negative result with a pinch of salt! It's pretty obvious when there is a crack, the rising black smoke can be seen coming up the rear of the engine on start-up.

My Accord will soon reach 200k miles. Still on the original clutch/DMF, turbo, fuel pump and injectors, but the manifold is cracked and I had to replace the timing chains a few years back. Injectors are noisy under load, particularly with cold fuel.

Mine clicked over to a mere 161k miles yesterday but it still drives very well. I think a lot is due to the owner where mileage is concerned, someone mechanically sympathetic will normally have a car that lasts longer.

Speaking of mileage, it just proves that these STANDARD iCTDi units are immensely reliable. I can remember when HUB was selling his egr blanking plates telling us that if we didn't blank up the egr, our engines will be coked up in no time :grin2:

LoL - I see the "How to" thread on here and thought mine must be clogged and dirty by now. Think I was on about 120k at the time, stripped it all down for nothing, very clean so it's what people are putting in their cars and how they drive them >:)

I've never blanked my EGR or interfered with its function in any way, and the inlet has remained clean enough.

EGR is an important environmental control feature to minimise NOx production, something which causes asthma in children, so I definitely don't regret my decision.

Vehicle MOT test requirements for diesels are tightening up this year. It's likely that full monitoring of both particulates and NOx will be introduced into the test over the next few years.

I hope they do bring them into the MOT test properly mate. Diesel drivers have been getting away removing emission control devices for too long. Petrol engines get emission tested so diesels should.
