Hi All,

Please help me!!!

I have a new shape 2006 (56) SE 1.8 i-Shift which has only done 25,000 miles. I have had it for a month and it has driven superb with no signs of mis-behaving.
This morning i started it up and selected reverse as normal......as i accelarated a little to get off my drive the i-Shift warning light came on and the car refused to move!....i turned the key to off and tried to start but nothing. I tried moving the gear lever to auto/neutral or reverse and back again but nothing.
I called the AA and thought they would sort it but after messing with the battery, he realised the car was stuck in a gear.....hence won't start!!!......he tried rocking the car to knock it out of gear but didnt work. It has now been recovered to Honda but have checked with them and they have got no further forward with it.

Any thoughts?????

Worried it is going to be a mess and cost the earth!!!

Seems like the gear simply needs to be reset back to neutral. Rocking it and trying to select another gear can help but the computer system may not allow this. My thoughts is it did not go fully into gear and the computer system protected itself. Hopefully just a reset of the system. No way can it be mechanical wear on a 25k car. Perhaps unplug the battery for an hour to reset everything and then try again.

UPDATE:

Honda Garage have rung me this morning and said that they have spent 4hrs investigating but still it is engaged and will not start. Honda technical have advised it is most likely to be the CLUTCH ACTUATOR ASSY......but they can't guarrentee that, saying they must try it by stripping down another one and borrowing the part to see if it works......at a cost of £350 for borrowing the other part to be sure and £1700 to fit a new actuator!!!!

The guy i bought it off is a friend and i trust him totally.....he said the car wouldnt start a couple of times recently but he just jumped it off his 4x4, assuming it was just a flat battery.....and then it was fine. Honda said there is/was 7 codes logged in the car. I have asked them to fax me the codes so i can post on here for some help.

I wonder whether the battery might be connected in any way???....

Honda have said this is a rare problem and to be honest i have looked on google and can't find much posted anywhere!

Not sure if the issues are caused by the battery though, but you do have P0562.

Hope this helps?

Honda Dealer have said they tested the battery and is fine.....and have added the latest software (which apparently was already there). They said that because the software hadn't cleared the permanant code P0919 - (Still stored) - Gear Shift Position Control Error, that they will have to try the actuator from another car.....

They have told me to expect a bill of £2000!!! - i'm devastated and bought a Honda because i thought it would be trouble-free and a safe bet.....gutted.

Really in that case your friend has done you over. Selling you a car that they knew didnt work properly. Next time go to a dealer...

Yes, good luck with that.

I usually ask them to remove the warranty and get a discount. I can't remember of a single instance of ever getting anything out of a garage warranty on used car.
Ive got a full Mugen resprayed front end, Mugen Wing respray and fit...

It is incredible that a component has worn out at 25k miles. It must have been defective give Honda UK a call and see if they will cover part of the cost based because of the mileage of the vehicle.

With all those past error codes I can't help but think the previous owner abused the system badly.

Don't want to suggest misuse by the OP here, but with those overheat codes, would it be possible that one of the owners has been holding it on the break and throttle and 'cooking' the clutch and actuator system, therefore leading to some kind of failure?

These things are pretty rare - I only can recall one other ishift failure on this forum and I seem to think the garage was also reporting overheating in the system.

Am I right in thinking that basically the dealer and Honda themselves haven't got a clue at this stage ?

They therefore intend to perform exhaustive tests to find out what the exact problem is ............. and you need to foot the bill for this investigation ?

Sounds wrong to me.

Find out what's wrong, tell me what it is and how much it's going to cost to repair.

I think some garages take this diagnostic strategy of replacing expensive whole components that are suspected via the onboard diagnostics before any other trouble shooting. BMW garages seem to be particularly partial to this kind of thing.

On my 318, the dealer wanted to replace the whole cat when it threw a code on the emissions system - took it to a local indy that tracked it down to a faulty sensor.

Honda dealer are now being totally out of order......now told me they won't remove part from another stock car to test and that i will have to wait until a part which Honda UK own to become available (currently with another dealer) before testing my car (which may not be until mid/late Jan) and that they cant offer a replacement car.

I now feel they are being out of order.....and although my car still won't start they said i'm welcome to come and get it and they won't charge me!.....basically they don't want the hassle of this case.

What the hell do i do now!!?
