Hi,

Last friday I've picked up my new Civic 2.2 i-DTEC Executive .

I'm very happy so far!!

One thing got me wondering though...

I've got the OEM 17" wheels and tires for the summer period, which came with the car obviously and for the winter i've got OEM 17" wheels (with winter tires) from a 2009 Civic.

Spec's between the two are similar, but there's one difference and that's the Offset.

The 2012 Civic wheels have an Offset of 50mm and the '09 ones have an offset of 55mm, so basically this means that the '09 wheels are more "inwards".

Is it perhaps possible that the 5mm difference can cause any issues with for instance the shock absorbers or any other suspension parts??

Thanks...

One of my colleague is using the winter wheels he bought for his 8G model on his new 2.2 9G without any issue ... but I don't know the specs of the rims/wheels.

Use a 5mm spacer if unsure.
You won't need a fancy one for just 5mm so universal will do.

ET55 didnt work for me when I tried. The car wouldnt move at all but they were 16" rims. Might be okay for 17". Just put one on and try.

Have you checked the track width difference between old and new? The new one has a revised suspension, does it not?

I had a 2010 civic SI with 17" alloys, and bought a set of 16" steel wheels with higher aspect tyres for winter use and they fitted fine. Both sets of wheels had a 55 offset (stamped on the outside of the steel wheels and inside on the alloys. I have now bought a 2013 civic 1.6 diesel it has 16" alloys, and I thought that the steel wheels would fit, they did not, they fouled the brake calipers and would not turn. The alloys for the 1.6 diesel have a 45 offset (stamped inside the wheel) I bought a second hand set of 16" MK9 Honda Civic alloys from the dealer and they changed over the tyres from the steel wheels, and every thing fits fine. These second hand alloys also have a 45 offset but they are not off a 1.6 diesel (they have a unique alloy wheel) but off I assume either a 1.8 petrol or 2.2 diesel has the alloys have their pattern. I assume that this means all MK9's have a 45 offset while MK8's have 55 offset

I've found a 9th gen with 8th gen 17" type S wheels fitted, so it should be fine I guess..

Has anyone acutally tried this?

We've got a set of 17" 5 spoke "Type S" alloys that we've been running on the 8th gen FK2. They are close the calipers on the 8th gen, more so than the standard alloys but they do fit.

They look like these:

I've put a deposit down on a 9th Gen 1.8 ES-T today (to replace the wife's FK2) that comes on standard 16" alloys and I'm just wondering if the "Type S" alloys will fit come winter time.

I've found varying sites that claim different offsets for the 8th and 9th Gen.

Am I right in thinking the 8th Gen Type S alloys are 7Jx17 ET55 and 9th Gen are 6.5Jx16 ET45? This would indicate they will be close!

I've fitted 6.5x16 8g wheels to the front of my 9g. They are further in towards the strut but i have had no fouling problems.

I have done somewhat the opposite of this as I use 16" wheels taken from the 9g with winters on my 8g FK2 with no problems...

8g FK2 with early 9g 16" wheels.

Cheers,

Stuart
