Based on your lack of knowing the difference between your and you're, the unnecessary insults to long term members, and simple strange use of language, I think you're confusing your 1.2 Limited Edition Corsa with a Type R....
Never financed a car in my life chap.
Who the **** buys a FK8 Type R then decides its too much like an 18 year olds boy racer car and wants to remove the spoiler.. Lol!

Yes, as you point out its hardly rocket science. :grin2:
Even if a person was serious about doing this it's pretty obvious what is required just by looking, so there should be no genuine reason to ask the question on an owners forum.
I am actually doing what I said not to now, so I will shut up. :wink3:
OK I know I said I would shut up....but some of us seem to be assuming the OP has posed a genuine question.
I refuse to believe it.
I mean think about it.....what kind of person would spend 33 grand on a car that by their own admission looks like it should be owned by a boy racer, then wants to go about changing it by removing a significant part of the downforce that it was designed with?
As pointed out it is highly likely the insurance could be void.
The whole thing defies logic....I've never heard anything so ridiculous!
:serious:
Actually, that stupid wing is the only reason why I'm not driving a type R right now. I would gladly chop that wing off if there were any viable options to replace it with. The 2018 type R wing looks like a cartoonish Mattel Hot Wheels matchbox car reject and draws waaaay too much attention for those of us looking to avoid speeding tickets. I greatly hope the 2019 models will offer more conservative spoiler options. I could do without the fake air vents. :serious:
I looked seriously at a new type r on the company scheme before i decided to bale out and buy my own car (diesel tourer) and i also love the car but don't like the huge spoiler. @Yorkie999 its your car do what you want.
You need to do some more googling - there was at least one thread i found on the usa forums where guys had removed their wings. I pinned one image on my fk8 pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/347410558749292258/
As above, it's not hard to do apparently, just a few bolts - big issue you'd have is how to cover up neatly the exposed holes plus you'd be potentially messing up the aero.
I removed a spoiler on my esprit gt3 many years ago (shouldn't have had one, was a v8 spoiler added by idiot previous owner) and i just put some rubber grommets in the holes. Didn't look too bad and kept the rain out, allowed me to run without the spoiler then re-fit when the car was sold. Black rubber grommets against the dark green paint were pretty subtle.
I find the spoiler handy for laying polishing clothes on when it comes to cleaning time...
It is ladishly standy outty, but that's the point isn't it? Different from the "norm"...
If the chap feels that it is too much for him, then he is well within in his right to remove the rear spoiler... Just don't forget to buy some grommets where the holes are!
lol, I think the OP disappeared around this time last year looking at the OP. But as it's been revived, I seem to remember guys doing this with the RS Escort when they came out, plus I've seen time trailers remove them because they reduce top end mph on the flat out parts.
Each to their own, but if done right with a smaller replacement spoiler I bet it still looks good.
Think you might struggle with the insurance. Honda state it is a functional devise not a styling item, as such by removing it you affect the stability and handling of the car. Its removal could be deemed to contribute to any accident which results from you loosing control of the vehicle.
The spoiler is fundamental to the stability of the car. Having had a Type R up to 160+mph and a Golf R up to the same speed (on a test track) I can assure you that spoiler works. Type R was stable and predictable....the Golf.....I had to change my pants!!! If you are in the habit of doing some very fast road driving (and we're all guilty of that at some point) then take it off at your peril. Even the small 'winglets' across the top of the tailgate have a big effect on the turbulence and air flow over the rear spoiler.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
