Well I've had the EX 4 days now, and so far so good. It may not have the build quality that the Merc had but it doesn't rattle or squeak. Road noise is higher than that I had on the Merc.

The handling is nice and firm, and that's how I like a car to handle. It's nothing like my old Type R, but a lot better than the Merc. Gearbox is good and changes well.

Visibility is poor at the rear but I knew this anyway, and it's not a major issue as far as I'm concerned, however what does throw me still is the bonnet length or lack of it. Speaking of the bonnet size, how small is that engine.

Performance is very good for a diesel, nice and torquey from 2nd gear and up however I do think accelerating from 70 in top gear is not as quick as the Merc was, at least that's my perception. I can't comment on mpg yet as I've only just filled the tank, but so far the needle hasn't moved in about 60 or so miles.

The dash layout is fantastic and very easy to read. Unfortunately it does feel cheap inside compared to German cars, but it is very well laid out.

SatNav so far seems pretty good, but when I said "nearest Chinese" the closest one it found was 66 miles away. Voice activation is ok, but sometimes struggles with 1 or 2 commands.

All in all, I am very pleased with the Civic, and think it was a better choice than a Golf in the end, and certainly better than my Merc. I really would like to have a go in one of these in Type R guise. My 05 CTR was a fantastic car, but the Mrs didn't like the ride.

C220 CDi coupe. Nice car, but I was never really happy with it, and there always seemed to be this unsteadiness which nobody could solve, and even said I was imagining it.

Yes totally miss the R, but common sense has to come through here and I had to cut the running costs too. Mind you, it was cheaper to run than my remapped MK4 Golf GTi.

Well I've had the car since May obviously, and I have 1 or 2 little gripes with the car.

1 is there feels like a tyre vibration coming through the floor pan, and through the steering wheel, but not an unbalanced tyre feel. Some tram lining, but can't figure what this vibration is. The front tyres only lasted 11,500 miles too and that's mostly motorway. The car just doesn't feel very well balanced on the move now, but more so on the "rougher" road surfaces. I also don't find the steering that great, especially if I turn hard left, say in a car park, it almost feels like it's still trying to go straight on and the wheel isn't turning as far as it should be.

2 is I get a rattle from the trim around the start button. Is the diagnostics port here? It seems to have happened since the service.

On the plus, I'm loving the fuel economy and the amount of stuff I can get in the boot.

I've also noticed that this is the only car I've ever had to scrape ice off the rear lights. Has anyone else found this? I've also got the annoying creaky windscreen when it's cold outside, that's kind of annoying too.

I'm still glad I changed the car, but one reason I got rid of the Merc, was because I had an annoying vibration through the floor pan, albeit much worse than is in the Honda. Hmm mabe it's a diesel thing.

I've had to scrape the frost off the rear lights too. I'm sure quite a few owners will have to do it.

Good to hear that you're enjoying the Civic, even with its minor faults.
