Just booked my car in for it's 6yr/75k service, and I knew it'd be a dear job, but dealer has come back with a price for the "full" service (they apparently do 2 types) of £732:eek:

I added that i wanted the Gearbox oil swapping (my gearchange still isn't good enough!), but when he said the figure he did I nearly shat myself!

I asked him to break down the costings involved and some of the parts seem ridiculously expensive.

£150 for a fuel filter seems excessive- but apparently it's a bitch to do as it's partial drop of the fuel tank to do it, But the cost of the spark plugs seems waaaay over the odds too!?

As i remember it, the break down of the work involved is something like

Oil
Oil fitler
Spark plugs
Air filter
Pollen filter
Tappet clearances (check & adjust)
Brake fluid
Gearbox oil change (which I added myself)

Have any of you guys had this service done at the dealer - but been charged a LOT LESS??, or is this about the going rate for such a service!

I was expecting £400'ish, but not £700+!!

Ok I can see how time consuming some of this will be, and it does seem like a fairly comprehensive service too, I just wasn't ready for the price quoted!

Gone ahead as I want to keep the FDSH, but sod me, Hope this kinda expense doesn't creep round too often![smilie=holyshit.gi:

Mine was half that but minus the plug change, and possibly gear box oil, oh and possibly the fuel filter

They don't need to drop the fuel tank to do it, it took me 1.5 hours to change my fuel filter reading a guide online and i'm no mechanic. I don't see it taking them more than half an hour to do. Spark plugs are a 20-30 minute job depending how long it takes to remove the trim and refit that is in the way of the spark cover. I bought a set of oem spark plugs for around £30.

£275 at Grinspeed which included everything that a dealer will do apart from the fuel and pollen filter.

That means SFA to me!

I went for the whole hog version which means everything listed above (& possibly a couple more besides) gets done, there was a MUCH cheaper version at £250'ish, but that with NO fuel filter or spark plugs etc etc.

Sure they quoted over £100 for Spark plugs too - unless I heard them badly wrong!, thinking about it that can't be right, they told me they'd need the car for the day and even roughly bashing it out i'd expect "maybe" £200- £250 in parts & the rest labour charges.

Still seems dear, how long does the tappet clearance/adjustment check take??

Ahh - looking at that, neither then, those prices look like the boggo/stripped down version of what I've had, as they don't include several of the things listed on the full version apparently!

he did ask if I wanted the "full legit" version or the "other service we offer", and the 2nd version looked like the 12+ version listed on that site you linked, but he stated that that omits various things the full version covers.

Hmm - must be legit then I guess, just took me back n made me think I was having my pants pulled down for a right royal graftin!!

Scroll down the bottom and there is a price break down on individual items you are having done, pollen and air filter are easy to do yourself should only take about 15 minutes to do both

Yeah I could do those easily enough I guess, but tbh it's not those that are jacking the price up - it's stuff like the fuel filter/tappet clearance check etc that I assume are the more costly/time consuming.

I'll just have to take the hit.

More than anything i'm hoping that the box oil swap will improve my gearchange and make it what it should be. I've done the Skunk2 heavyweight knob and short shift kit, but high rpm changes & it can baulk/ not want to go (1st to 2nd say), and it's spoling the car, the rest is just done for piece of mind really.

Will have to have a look at the cost of having plugs done though, cos I;m sure he quoted me an extortionate amount!

Ugghhh - looks like he wasn't kiddin!

Iridium Plugs x 4 - £145

What the hells all that about!?, I can remember a few years ago being able to get platinum tipped jobbies for £60 a set (not Honda btw)

You could just have the service done on its own and get the other bits done a month or so after to help split the cost up, won't seem like such a big outlay all in one go then !

Would you let halfords do your tapped clearences and Variable valve timing I dout it plus they won't be genuine parts, the price is about right for the dealers can't see why you are suppressed, if you supplied your own parts it might be cheaper, you can change your own pollen / air filter and plugs. Just go to an Independant specialist at least you know it will more than likely get done. I have so many scary stories having a brother who worked as a mechanic for Honda. You wouldn't even go there for an oil change let alone anything else with the instructions they received to carry out lol
