Hmmm, not sure about those prices especially for the EX GT 2.2cdti, there are a lot of much better cars for that money. For example - BMW UK : BMW 318d Performance Edition Pricing and specification

Not sure Honda have got the pricing right.

The more I look at pictures of the new car the more I'm moving to the 'don't like it' side of the fence but will wait to see it in the flesh.

Having said that, the look of the 9G, and the reactions it's received, might make our 8G Civics more desirable and keep the SH prices up a bit. Always looking on the bright side of things.

how does this compare to the price of the old civic in 2005?
i wonder if the percentage increase is the same or more then Hondas rivals.

Blimey, I know inflation pushes prices up but back in 2002 a Type-R cost less than today's entry level Civic.

Using the configurators....

An SE 1.8 is about the same price as the equivalent Golf and new Focus.
An EX 2.2 is £2k less than a Golf but £2k more than a Focus.
An EX GT 2.2 is the same price as a Golf, but £3k more than a Focus. However, the Focus doesn't have leather.

The low end cars seem to be well positioned. Price is about right, but the customer will get slightly better spec.

The high end cars are in the usual position. Below the Golf and above the Focus.

Blimey indeed £26k for an EXGT 2.2?? doesn't Honda realise the world is heading for financial collapse soon :p, pushing the prices up even more won't help Sales imo.

Wasn't the EXGT 2.2 of the 8th £22k roughly, thats another £4k for what exactly?

Top Spec 2011 EXGT 2.2 is £23,285. Top Spec 2012 EXGT is £26,595. £3,310 difference.

Auto off timer for Stereo/Lights,
Jack Knife Key,
Eco Mode,
New Engine,
Rear Parking Camera,
Key Operated windows & Folding Mirrors,
Auto up/down windows all round,
Ambient Lighting,
Front & Rear Parking Sensors,
Smart Entry & Start,
Driver & Passenger seat Power Lumbar Support,
HID's with High Beam Support.

Plus the options of ACC/CMBS @£1,900

+ the fact its a new car.

All in, I think its pretty justifiable

The decision becomes more complicated if you look for basic spec premium metal:

New diesel C Class (Jockey shorts 136 bhp model): £26,650. (more powerful petrol is £25k).
New BMW 320d ES (180 bhp): £26,545

Fair enough its got a few more extras but is it £3.3k's worth? I don't know.

Trouble is, like others have been saying, the £26k pricing opens Honda up to competition from other Manufacturers with pricing in that bracket that they probably wouldn't have otherwise.

Exactly :rolleyes: and don't get me wrong Honda I love my Civic and don't mind the squeaks from the dashboard and clutch pedal etc but are they saying the new civic is as well built (or at least with the premium materials) as the Mercs and BM's in that pricing bracket? Well I won't cast any judgement on that until I've seen one in the flesh so I'll wait and see.

My point exactly. I like my Civic, but if I was in the market for a top spec 2012 Civic I would be seriously put off when I looked at what else I could have for the same money. After having BMWs as company cars for two years, a 318d performance edition or 320d ES with less toys would get my vote over a fully loaded Civic EX GT every time, especially when I'm not too sure of the new look.

It's fair enough comparing prices to a Focus but walk into any Ford dealership and you can get a Seriously heavy discount on a new Focus, you would never pay anything near list price.

Walk into Honda and you'll get a coffee and maybe some mats.

That £2k difference to the Focus will be more like 6 or 7 with a bit of bartering.

I agree with many of you. To pay that sort of money, Honda would need to have seriously upped their game in some departments. While BMW Merc etc are not without their problems either, Honda are going to have to have created that premium feel you get from these 'more prestigious' brands.

Personally I have always been keen to buy a higher spec model in a less expensive brand. It now however looks like I'm not going to be able to replace my type s gt diesel for a similar spec honda for the same cash...

I will reserve judgement for when the 'real' prices are available. By that I mean how the specs compare to the competition when the usual available discounts are applied - like some have already mentioned, no one should pay anywhere near the OTR prices for mainstream cars (especially Ford, Vauxhall, etc)

I'm surprised at the limited choice of engines. Fair enough the diesel had to be replaced, but the same 1.8, except it's a bit greener and a bit slower. The whole car looks more like a facelift rather than any significant step forward, but let's wait and see.

That ES 3 series will have nothing on it though (I owned one earlier this year). You'll get flat as a pancake cloth seats, 16 inch wheels, no auto wipers, no auto headlights, and manual air con.

26K is a lot to pay for a Civic though at any spec level. I think I'd be looking at an Accord at that money.

The petrol is a little more powerful though - probably the gearing/weight that means it is fractionally slower than the old model to 60.
