Hi there,

So previously my air con went about a year ago and i swapped to the updated part number relay and it all started working again.

So now today it started working as I was leaving home (luckily as it was 25C) and then after driving 5 minutes I accelerated, I guess that meant the A/C compressor clutch disengaged and it never engaged back on!

First thing I did when I got home, pulled the relay and checked it. Found it was working perfectly with continuity on the multimeter. So from there I checked the two fuses for the A/C system, also checked out as totally fine. So I ran the engine and closely looked, the clutch is definitely not engaging but the A/C fans are coming on no problem. Decided to check for any error codes on my bluetooth ODB reader, that showed nothing too.

Whats the best thing to check now? I looked at the pressure sensor but didn't expect to see 3 wires so wasn't sure what to do there. Annoyingly I have the Type R so space is minimal around the engine.

Are there any dark oily patches on the condensor? How about each of the hose connections throughout the system?

Do you use the AC regularly?

I'd get it to a reputable AC specialist to give it a thorough check over. They'll be able to check for most leaks very easily. If they regas it, then ensure they add UV dye - this makes hunting awkward leaks much easier.

Farqui,

Noticed you are really close to me, I am in Loughborough. Do you have any recommendations for a specialist in the area?

I have climate control in my car so it will use it majority of the time for that. Good call on leaks I haven't checked yet.

I used a local mechanic who has a AC discharge/recharge unit, just south of Tuxford.

He was a great for my diagnosis, ordered parts and allowed me to fit the busted parts (at home) before test'g/regas'n.

He's usually pretty busy and as his kit it generic you may as well find someone local. Try online reviews or word of mouth.

Good luck.
