Snow is here, and the damage starts. Didn't realise the windscreen wipers were on end the next minute my vipers make noise and the metal arm that holds the wiper blade is damaged and bent. Now the left wiper doesn't operate and only works on a quarter of the windscreen. Can someone help of what part i need and how much it would cost? Or does my warranty cover this? Thanks

Automatic wipers are a pig in this weather!!... Best bet is to play it safe and keep them switched off (on manual).
Also, make it routine when you see ice that the first thing you do is lift the blades to unstick them as they may be frozen to the windscreen.
Power folding mirrors can be a pain too... try not to fold them last thing at night when it's mild as they may be frozen solid by the morning and trying to fold them out may burn out the motor.

Its easy to forget to turn the auto wipers off but it is very important. I've heard you can burn out more than just the wiper motor/arm too (ECU i'm sure I read somewhere if that's true)..

Yup, think you can brick the MICU by doing this on the earlier 2.2s.

Do what I do - when I park up at home, I give the wipers and mirrors and driver's door edge a good "zap" with a spray bottle of concentrated winter windscreeen wash (the stuff that sneers at -30C and lower) ...

Never had a problem in 4 years - apart from the one time last winter when I couldn't find the car ! - (parked beside a hedge and the wind had buried it in a GIGANTIC snowdrift) - took bloody hours to dig it out, and the wipers still weren't frozen !!! ...
