Noticed that the 3dr Civic has an auto day night mirror as an optional accessory.
Anybody kows this will fit the 5dr?
I found install instructions for the US model. (see pdf) I do notice that the mirror fixation is not same as EU model.

Thanks for the info Civhead, I got my info from:
http://www.handa-accessories.com/civic06.html

Did in your case the mirror fit on the original base?
What type did you order?
Also, important to notice is that the voltage on the blue LED that you use is not suitable.
It is a PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) voltage coming from the dash light regulation.
A PWM voltage is a kind of rectangular wave, this might be the cause that your mirror is not working properly. Using a simple circuit it is possible to convert the PWM signal to a proper voltage.

It did fit on the original base
I got the cheapest model Base Mirror 50-GENK2
Did' nt realise that the roof blue led was fed from dash lights with PWM
It works ok when I shine a torch at the sensor. It's just when the car behinds headlights hit the rear spoiler

Hi Civhead,

Overall, was it worth the bother? I miss the autodim feature that my Golf had, but get your point absolutely about the spoiler marring the effect.

Thanks,

Damian

p.s. What's the story about this modulated voltage thing? What sort of circuit would you need to build to get a stable voltage?

For the mirror you need a voltage coming from the contact or alternatively use a voltage coming when the lights are ON.
Since there is no wiring for that, you could use the voltage for the courtesy light, but then you would drain the battery (since it is allways ON). Or use the voltage going to the Blue LED, this blue LED is only ON with the lights. Unfortunately the blue LED voltage is not a stable one, it is driven by the dash light regulation (PWM voltage). Some circuits could work using this voltage but it is not recommended at all.

So use a simple circuit to convert this voltage (I can show you how)
Or remove some panels and route a new wire (like shown in my pdf)

I did not order a mirror yet, first want to check with my dealer if the 3dr version fits. Otherwise I order one in the US. ;)

Just found other voltage source:
If you have auto lights/wipers, then connect to the white wire of this sensor.
There is the 12V after contact ON.

I have neither I'm afraid.... Is the modulated voltage an off/on alternating voltage? If so, this would affect the speed at which the mirror darkens wouldn't it? A steady 12v would be much more effective (I think!)

Stef, if you could doodle us a little circuit diagram, I'm sure that we'd all be very grateful.

Thanks in advance,

Damian

OK I post a diagram soon.
But if you do not know how to make a (small) circuit. Get a wire routed to the 12V after contact.
The circuit will be allmost same as "how to make homing lights" I made.
Actually it is the same problem.

Thanks Stef, I'll take a look and see if I can figure it out.

I did a quick check on the diagrams and I noticed if you take the Grey wire from the blue LED as + and take the ground (chassis) from int light, then you will get a stable +12V if the headlight are ON.
So do not use the blue wire that does to the blue LED as ground, this is where the PWM signal is going.
So no circuit is needed :D.
Here you have the int. light diagram

CIVHEAD, did you also order the extra bracket?

I ordered 1 from the states http://www.autodimmingmirrors.com/newstore/shop.php/auto-dimming-mirrors-gentex-/c_1.html
about 6 months ago cost me approx £60 including p&p & import tax vat
It fitted straight onto the window mount & I wired it into the blue roof led & earth so it comes on & off with the lights works ok ish its the split rear window that blocks the light to the sensor, but not your eyes sometimes
Hi, CH - I decided to follow your recommendation and order the mirror you got, just before Christmas. Hasn't arrived yet - just wondering how long yours took?

Hi Smiffy
It can take up to 28 days, when I thought mine was over due I emailed them & they told me this, it all depends on customs.
Did the give you a tracking number?

I received an Email after about 8 days that they canceled my order ?!

"Your Order with AutoDimmingMirrors.com has not been processed.
Occasionally we have this problem with overseas orders"

I think I will try here:

No - no tracking number - just an order Id. Good luck with eBay, Stef. Wish I'd seen that. It looks more expensive than the dollar price, but I had to pay them $25 for overseas shipping, so it's probably about the same.

Seems like a lot to pay when simply flicking a switch does the same job. Plus the lip on the rear windscreen blocks most of the glare anyway!

Just reveived mine yesterday (ordered on sunday, see above).
Mirror fits perfectly onto original base however there is no plastic cover over the mount, but the metal is has good finisch.
The package even included the special glue + mount should you ever need it... Tonight I will do the wiring. I will wire the 2 wires to the auto lights/wipers sensor circuit, there is the voltage I need. :p
BTW the manual is about the most poorly made manual I ever ever got. Good for the base version GENK2 you actually do not need it.
