Well after just over 4 years the battery is on its way out. Starting is now very lazy. Checked the battery voltage last night and it was 12.99 volts, this morning its down to 10.5 volts. Either the battery cannot hold charge or the something is draining the battery overnight.

Are there any specific instructions for changing the battery?

you could do with checking the draw on the battery before deciding on a battery. the battery fitted to your civic is a calcium lead type which once drained, unless you charge it propperly will never be at full cappacity. you want to ensure there are no underlying problems before killing a new battery. if you have not got a multimetre almost any garage should be able to check the current draw for a small fee. i would suggest honda however as they are aware of the propper procedures and have the appropriate equiptment.
