Yep...it's true...how is it possible? Well, doing one month this week, that my car is at the dealers for fixing.
It all started when sometimes i couldn't put 1st gear to start. It went to the dealers and never came home again.
I'm sick of waiting for parts and not knowing what's the real problem is. Let's change this part, than the other to see if they discover the problem.
Car is 1 year old, 30.000Km (i use it to go to work every day), 1.8 5 door, and already one month stopped at the dealer for repairing. Still paying my car, paying insurance...etc. After some irritation, i have a cortesy car after 2 weeks riding in my sisters cars to go to work. They gave me a Civic 1.4 and if I trash it i have to pay it from my pocket, as the insurance doesn't cover my fault accidents. (my car has full insurance)

Parts replaced: clutch pump, full clutch kit, flywheel, now waitting for the 1st and 2nd gear synchro (they say it looks ok, so....they are replacing it for nothing, but it is what Honda Portugal says to them to do. Assholes).

For now it's my Honda's story. I used to love Hondas....but....it's enough. Maybe I should have bought an older Civic EP3 or an EK4 Civic.

Probably if it isn't sorted this week, after they put the gearbox on, even without being ok, i'll take the car and....gonna sold it. Citroen C4, Renault Megane Coupe or a Mitsubishi Lancer. I'm gonna lose money but after the warranty is over, the gearbox will come from my pocket. And a gearbox is not a cheap thing.

Feel sad for this...besides this big problem, it's an amazing car...and i like it...it's stupid but true.

I'm surprised virtually every component of the gearing system would break. are you certain you can change gear properly ;) I suppose some of us will get unlucky.

Hi Mike...the dealer can't change to the 1st gear too. So it's not "my" problem.
It's not downshifting from 2nd to 1st. It's only for start, coming from neutral to 1st gear.
Yep...unlucky. Everything can fail...it shouldn't but...it's possible. I can't complain about that. But i'm complaining about 1 month without my car and they not knowing what's wrong. they are taking shots to see if the discover the problem...

After sometalk...tomorrow some talk with a member Honda Portugal. Let's find out...

On the other hand, sorry to play Devil's Advocate here, but you can do a lot worse than a Mitsi Lancer. Yum.

Sorry to hear about your troubles; hope it's fixed to your satisfaction one way or the other soon.

I saw a renault in the garage the other day when I was passing, I went in and the salesman bounded over to try and sell me it, I just looked and said "I remember when I said I'd never buy a Renault...... it was only thirty seconds ago........." ;-)

LOL

Before this i had a 2006 Mitsubishi Colt...and runned fine.
Well, after two Clios(2001, 2004 still at home), and two Meganes station (previous model, 2005 and another from 2008 still at home), i have minor complains from Renault. As I remember it was a remote door lock malfunction in the last Clio. And they are still running :p
Hope when this week ends, i'll have good news...

I feel the pain :p ahahah

In fact the best Japan cars were built in Japan . The lancer 1.5 is made in eu (maybe in Netherlands) only the 1.8 is being made in Japan.

That's a nasty story. I hope they'll fix your car soon.

I also hear some bad stories about Renault. They're one of the least reliable cars.

update:
yesterday (February 11th) received a call from the dealer where my car is at, and they told me the arriving date of the synchros is....

6th March.

oh yeah...so yesterday i started to call Honda Portugal etc...write them a letter...etc... going for two months without a car. this is inadmissible in any brand, and especially for Honda that for me was a great car manufacturing.

I suppose now that the factory is shut for the next 4 months the component manufacturers are also on short time ?

Let's hope nothing breaks in the next 4 months !

just to make an update, and hope the end of problems.

Received my car already. After some arguing, lots of stupid excuses I finally made a warning that I would go further (if they would not stop playing with people) to court, since they were breaking some laws.
The result was, in less than 1 hour, I was contacted by, that they found a complete gearbox, and they would change it.
Just to finish....new pump clutch, clutch, flywheel, full gearbox after my car being stopped for almost one month and an half. For now, I can put into 1st gear. Let's hope this is the beggining of a new era, without problems in my Civic.

Thanks for the dealer in UK (Holdcroft) that helped me with arguments about the time deliver for some specific parts and the dealer where I bought my car (Viamotors).

That's great news. Hopefully from now on your car is as reliable as we all expect and you don't have to go through such a bad experience again.

the new era ended quickly....now sometimes when engaging the reverse gear, it gets stuck, and can't change to any gear. it only gets off after pushing it sometimes with some strength....

I read somewhere - don't know here exactly anymore - on this forum about someone who had the same problem ( stuck gear box). In the end they fixed it. The cause of all problem was a ring in the box that wasn't fixed (right). I am not a specialist - on the contrary - but maybe this hint can help you.
