Hi,
I’m new to the forum and in desperation I’m looking for some help or advice about an issue I have with my civic.
I bought my car in nov 2018. It’s a 65 plate 1.6 idtec sport. Love the car to bits. Great on fuel, loads of gadgets. Couldn’t ask for more, except I’m having an issue with the hands free system.
When I make a call, I can hear the other person but they can barely hear me. I often get told that they only hear every other word. This happens intermittently and I’ve noticed it tends to be when I’m accelerating. When the car is stationary it’s fine.
I’ve battled it out with Honda for almost 4 months and they have replaced the head unit, checked with other phones and have never found a fault. Recently, I stormed my local dealer and I tested my phone in an identical civic with the same result. On the one hand, the dealer was able to hear what a call sounds like and can understand my frustration, but said there is nothing more they can do. However, I have since been seeking advice from apple (my phone is an iPhone XS Max). They ensured my software was up to date, completed a hard reset and restore and also gave me an appointment at my local apple store to check the hardware of the phone. Everything checks out.
So I’m stuck between apple and Honda, with a car that won’t allow me to make calls of a reasonably quality through the hands free. Honda are saying it’s the phone, apple are saying it’s the car. I need the hands free to work because I travel a lot with my job and need to be able to take calls. I’ve searched forums and googled all sorts, but no one else seems to have had a similar issue.
If anyone has any ideas, suggestions or advice about what I could try next, that would be awesome!

I am experiencing exactly the same as you, first with an iPhone 6 and now an 8. The dealership have looked into it with not a clue how to solve it, suggesting that some owners had fitted Parrot kits. I have written to Honda but they just refer you to back to the dealership.
Like you I need it to work for business use, and it's not great when customers can't hear me.
With my previous car, a Mondeo I never had to think about Bluetooth it just worked.
Sorry to say I don't have a solution but hopefully someone might

At least I know I’m not the only one. Funny, I had a mondeo before this as well. Old and battered but excellent car to drive. Was it mentioned to you that not all phones are compatible when you were buying the car? I’ve been told this by the dealership. Feels a bit like I’m being fobbed off to be honest. I wonder if I can go down the route of being mid sold/not fit for purpose?

I wasn't told about incompatibility, I just presumed it would work. I bought a clip on Bluetooth device that was worse and more dangerous dialing. I suggested to Honda that they had probably been compensated by the manufacturer of the head unit as it was not fit for purpose and they should pass this on, and sort this out, but it fell on deaf ears.
I've only a year and a half left before I'm due to change so I guess I'll live with it

Seems like we’ve had a similar experience. Honda seem unwilling to look into my issue further. Glad that you’ve only got a short time to go. I took my car over 5 years so I’m hoping I can find a fix. It’s a long time if I don’t

I should probably say it's the only thing that drives me mad and spoils a good car.i love the sound quality of the head unit, I find the car comfortable and the economy is amazing. But Honda's parts pricing is also a bit greedy.

I have an iPhone X connected to a 64 reg Honda Civic and its ok so they can't say that its the incompatible in general.

Have you tried connecting another bluetooth device to your phone to check that it holds a bluetooth connection ok.

In reverse do other phones connect to the Honda ok?
