Gentlemen,

I forgot to check this on my Tourer Lifestyle (with Premium Audio) test drive (had a tight schedule):

How does the display act when you stream audio via Bluetooth connection? What's on the display?
Is it able to identify the stream source name and other data? (MP3 file metadata, Soundcloud stream name etc)
How many Bluetooth connections can it handle at the same time? In case I wanted to have the phone hooked up to a handsfree profile and tablet computer for everything else (audio, navi, etc).

Thanks in advance.

I have a UK EX spec car with premium audio.

The display - both audio screen and iMid both just show the name of my phone.
I can use the same phone for music and phone at the same time. Music cuts out if the phone rings.
I have two phone set up on my car and can can still make/receive calls on my work phone while streaming music from my personal phnone. Again music cuts out if eh phone rings.h

Two simultaneous connections is good. Not displaying stream name is weird.

Could this maybe be different on other phones? I was streaming from an HTC One S.

I'll check this, stream/file name/duration etc is a standard feature in Bluetooth audio specification. I recently tested the new Transit Connect with Ford Sync and it worked like it should - everything relevant was displayed.

On my iPhone 5 it just shows my iPhones name on the displays (i-mid and satnav) but I can use the buttons to skip to the next track, etc. Bluetooth hands-free still works. When I connect my iPhone to the Civic via cable it also shows album art, track name, etc. and lets me choose from all my music on the phone via the satnav screen.

I use an Google Nexus 5 (and before that a Nexus 4). 99% of the time I play music through Spotify and bluetooth.
Both displays (I have the premium) show song, artist and album but not the album cover.

Hey cascade, can you post pics how it looks? Really strange that your Gnex shows artist and song but my iPhone doesn't. Does it also show artist and title when you just play an mp3 over the music player via bluetooth?

Yes, I went to the dealer to test it myself. I also have a Nexus 5 and every BT source displays the metadata on the screen: music player, podcast player and Soundcloud, didn't have time to test anything else but I see no reason for it not to work.

Here's Soundcloud:

Thanks. Doesn't work on iOS or Windows Phone 8. Obviously the Bluetooth implementation of Android is better.

Don't get that via my android phone!!

is this bluetooth streaming or cable connection?

Maybe the slightly dubious source of some of my MP3's might be a factor!!!

That's wireless, if your music player shows artist and/or song name then it should show on the car's screen as well.

My Sony XPERIA Z1 shows Title Artist and Album but not Artwork on the iMID via Bluetooth. With the iPod connected to USB I have Everything including album artwork.

Hello,

Same as Slider2, my Android phone does not show metadata when streaming audio via Bluetooth :(

It's strange it works for some of you (martinez?). If it's not an Android limitation, then it might be linked to the player? I use Rocket Player, I'll try later on with another software (e.g. Google Music).

edit:
According to xda forums (and multiple other sources) it might be linked to the version of Android... I'll try to look into that later on.

It seems like metadata streaming is only supported with Bluetooth protocol avrcp 1.3 (and newer). And from what I've read so far Android version 4.2 and older (like mine) only support avrcp 1.0 (basic feature like play/pause, prev/next track, but no metadata).
That could explain a lot :)

You obviously also have to make sure the music on your device has metatagging.

You are right. It's mainly down to the phone's software.

There are some resources available from Honda / Johnson controls (who make the bluetooth unit for Honda). Some phones may provide track information and you may be able to check by playing with this site. This site is for honda in the Gulf Coast region where interestingly they show more information about what does and doesn't work than in the EU.

If you go onto the hondahandsfree site as if you were in the EU, it won't even mention whether the track listing will show. So the information is available to Honda, but they choose not to show it in the EU. Seems like a marketing move to hide which phone's won't actually work !!

There is also other info available from Australia but it seems to refer to the older 12YM vehicles here - see the download on the right.
