Booo!

Scene:

Me. Icy right hand turn.

Action: Sliding, VSA flashing insanely, ABS kicking and crunching

Result: Boink! 4-6mph into curb with wheel on full turn

Steering wheel is now out of alignment - definitely needs tracking sorting.

Could I have done more damage then I think I have? Tyre is fine, doesn't seem to have had any effect on handling and there are no strange grinding, chomping, juddering noises when turning at full lock.

Stupid ice. Stupid weather. stupid non-gritted B-roads. Stupid shortcut.. Stupid stayed in bed an extra 10 mins 'cos it was cold outside...

d'oh..

Phew... Good to hear.

I've got the car into the dealers at 12 today for tracking realignment.. I'll update later!

Haha! Yeah... definitely would if the weather could decide whether it was going to stay cold, warm up, snow, rain or maybe a bit of all 4!

Why not just keep them on during the winter like we do here in Scandinavia? Much safer than to gamble on the continiously changing driving conditions!...:hmmmm2:
As you might know it's mandatory over here - thank God! :)

Oh no!

Just called through to the dealers to see when the car is going to be ready to get picked up and have been told that 'there's some damage' and 'We're just putting an estimate together'!

Not good news!

Apparently I should hear more in the next 30 mins!

Winter tyres are better than summer tyres below 7C, but a few degrees above that is only as bad as having summer tyres on a few degrees below 7.

So mid Nov to mid Feb should be about right.

Wait no more, "****** ******" ! - just spent 4 bleeding hours digging my Civic out of a snow-drift, then to the dealer to have the Winter tyres put on !!! - (being Scottish, I always manage to convince myself that next weekend is best) - oh, and a near 2 hour trip (for 20km !) as well, due to the atrocious road conditions and the Xmas shoppers ...

p.s. - and busses stuck everywhere - Polish drivers don't seem to realise that you actually have to fit the tyre chains, rather than just admire them sitting inside the bus :mad: ...

p.p.s. - it was my "bad conscience" that was making me so 'fervent' about Winter tyres - I just knew I was going to get stuck !!! ...

Okaaaay.. Estimate is as follows..

Check and set wheel alignment.

Labour Charge - £442.00

Bearing Carrier £166.95
Lower Arm - £164.17
NSF Strut - £101.17
Wheel Bearing - £71.18

Plus the VAT at a wonderful 15% = £1087.29!

This is an expensive morning slide!!

Just a quick check on this - NSF is drivers side? Is it just me or is it odd that the impact was on the front passenger side of the car - Wasn't as though I smashed into the kerb! It seemed like a low impact bump at the time...

Your thoughts...?

(Winter tyres - the lo-cost alternative to kerb related car/ice tomfoolery!)

Absolutely - I was ******* myself on the way to the dealer earlier today (Summer tyres and horrible road conditions) - on the return (Winter tyres but roads now even worse than before) there was no problem whatsoever, even with a 'standing start' on a steep hill ...

NSF is passenger side, the clue is in 'Nearside' (Side nearest Kerb).

Wife did similar in her Fiesta so went through insurance, couldn't afford to pay out that sort of money at the time!!

Far too expensive, had a similar experience last year and I wasn't more than £300 out of pocket, including Labour!

Name and Shame Please.

That seems a little on the 'opportunist' high side, if you ask me? I would seriously get a second opinion or ask for some serious christmas cheer(discount).

I'm going to name and shame based on a conversation today:

Having called them to say that after the 'alignment' that I have been charged for - the steering wheel is not straight and I queried whether this was part of the alignment process - I was told that the alignment had not been carried out as the repairs would have to be done first.

Fair enough - But I then queried why I was being charged for work that was not done - The lady on the phone tried to fob me off saying that some work had been done - and I had a 'wheel alignment sheet' to prove it.

On examination of the wheel alignment sheet I can see there are three sections on it - Before adjustment, target data and after adjustment.

This is where I need Civinfo help - 'After adjustment' suggests that work has been carried out - The lady on the phone tells me that these are the figures I can expect to see once the repairs have been made - Is this so? Has anyone seen this form and can explain how it works before I kick off?

I still don't see it as very fair that I'm being charged for a wheel alignment that I blatently didn't receive and if I did receive it - why wasn't the work carried out correctly??!?

There are definite variences between the figures in 'before' and 'after' columns.

I'm getting the feeling that Barber Honda in Northwich are trying to take me for a ride!
