Hi all,
Looking to replace the front brake discs and pads on 2014 1.8 petrol model. I would appreciate any experiences and recommendations regarding which brand(s) have worked out well for others who have replaced theirs (other than genuine Honda discs/pads),
Thanks in advance, Peter.:smile3:

MTEC plain (no grooves, dimples) and coated disks for me, keeping them as rust free as possible.

Apec and Pagid often supply disks coated too.

Mintex pads are fine for daily driver duties.

I'd never touch mtec discs again. Got some on my Lexus and managed about 15k on them maybe and they're warped. They were bedded in properly as well. I've always run adl blueprint pads and will use blueprint discs next time I'm due to change on any of my cars including my FN2. When I have time I'll be replacing the mtec discs with blueprint as well.

An older gentlemen told me to only buy Herth + Buss for any part of a Honda vehicle.
He had a Honda dealership until a few years ago where I bought my EJ9.

Thanks for the replies everyone, that's given me something to go on. I hadn't heard of Apec or MTEC before, so I will look into them , as well as the others mentioned,

Many thanks, Peter.:smile3:

Got MTEC drilled and grooved on the front already, (about 2 1/2 years now), and got a set of drilled and grooved MTEC ready to go on the rear before the MoT in April. Using the MTEC pads too.

I used PAGID all around... replaced all disks / pads, and never had any issues. Over 50k out of the new DISKS / PADS on the front... but I don't tend to use them a lot

im sure when I bought my discs a good few years ago they offered mtec discs with either there own pads which I got thinking they were made to work with the discs or you could get there discs with mintex pads

I bought the drilled and grooved discs and far from what people say about drilled discs they never cracked in over 70,000 miles of road use

Looking at doing mine in the next week or 2, it's a toss up between Brembo's from ECP or EBC's all round.

But when did brakes get so spendy, even Pagid stuff is the same money as EBC & Brembo give or take a pint or 3, back in my day they were the budget option.

Interesting to see people's thoughts on the mtec disks. Maybe they didn't suite my car as the Lexus has twin pots.

you just maybe got a bad set of m-tec
or maybe a little swarf trapped while fitting resulted in premature warping
like some swear by ebc
I try to avoid after a friend took his bike to garage to have new front discs fitted ebc had just started doing discs for this particular bike
the garage owner was sponsored racer by ebc and he had a hell of a job with ebc as 3 sets of discs were fitted to the bike before they got a set that were not warped from new
im sure if the garage owner was not know to the company as well they wouldn't have replaced them at all going by the hassle it took to change them

I used to contribute on the TDI Golf Forum when I had a VW Golf a few years ago and when the topic of pads and discs arose our American friends were unanimously most surprised that we in the UK did not change our discs at the same time as the pads. Apparently the standard procedure in the US. They held their hands up in horror when I told then it was not practiced in the UK even by the main dealers who don't usually miss a trick to make more money.

I replaced both the front and rear discs and pads on mine just a few months ago, before i fitted them I took the time to spray the very outer edge and the inner section with black heat proof spray paint. It didn't take that long but it looks a lot better than having the discs rust after a few weeks. Just an idea that's all.

If'n a car is new to me then the first time the brakes need doing it gets full pads & discs, after that just pads.

Buy Pagid or EBC coated discs, they only costs pence more if anything and look a hell of a lot better as they get used.

So after contributing to this thread myself the time has come for me to do the brakes on my car after they were sticking a bit and I think they could do with being changed as I'm not happy with the bite at all currently. The plan is to do a full cleanup at the same time so may get new sliders as well. I'm swaying towards my tried and tested ADL blueprint pads and discs at the moment but has anyone used this combo on the fn2?
