Sorry for being dim but does one not need a step down "buck" connector and an inline fuse if running a dash cam from the option connector? I thought that was the general idea from the dash cam threads I have seen.

Depends on the dash-cam. Some take 12V and others take 5V and are provided with either a ciggy plug in adaptor PSU or hard wire PSU with wire ends to wire to the car 12V directly. These MUST be included in the dash-cam supply circuit.
As a rule of thumb, if the connector on the dashcam is a mini/micro USB socket, it must have a 5V supply not 12V. The converse is not necessarily true.
An inline fuse is optional, but its inclusion is generally considered to be a good idea.

This thread is for the sale of the connectors.
With regards to step down, if you're using a dashcam that is 12v, then no. With regards to fuses, the option connector is protected by fuse on the fuse board. If you decide to add another inline fuse, then that is entirely up to you.
