Hi all I've had my 2006 civic I shift for a few months and have noticed recently when I kick down to overtake it failed to change gears instead hit redline and when I lifted my foot of the accelerator it then disengaged and went into neutral and systems check light came on. I came to a stop and switched off completely restarted and everything was back again. Driven as normal since until this morning tried to overtake did the same again and once again stopped completely restarted and everything normal again. Apart from these two occasion it otherwise changes as normal and drives perfectly fine. Any ideas on what the issue could be? Any advice?

My first I shift otherwise a honda fan and have had always had manuals. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Gee

Hi. Seems as the clutch is overheating during hard acceleration, being ok during normal use confirms that. It might just need a fluid change and a learning done or perhaps a new clutch kit would be required.
Also the clutch actuator might be on its last legs and might need replacement/repair.
If possible, read the error codes stored and we will take it from there.
Regards, Dan

Hi

My 2007 78k i-shift displayed the cog and explanation mark before i had to stop at a red light. Next it would not go into gear. Stuck in N.

Can you advise on how I can request a fix/repair urgently?

Update.

I connected ODB whilst I waited for recovery. Ran a diagnostic and I couldn't tell if it did find any faults so I cleared it all. I start the ignition again and the cog disappears which enabled me to shift into gear.

Breakdown followed me home in case the issue reappears however it was fine.

Sadly I don't recall the faults if any and didnt think to take screenshots.

@automobilklub any idea what faults likely to appear on the app for the cog to appear and after clearing the car able to engage into A?

Also is the fault related to the clutch actuator and/or gear actuators?

Thanks

I just wanted to say that if anybody is having issues with iShift cog exclamation errors, then it's definitely worth getting @automobilklub to take a look at it. He got my 07 working last weekend with a friendly and professional service.

I'd much rather get a specialist to take a look, than run the risk of letting a regular mechanic loose on it, and end up with various parts being replaced unnecessarily to try and track the fault down.

"P19FF Clutch Friction Coefficient Learning Value Out of Range " this indicate worn clutch/pressure plate
"Long Term Clutch Contact Point Learned Value 9.75mm", "Friction Coefficient General (Actual) 510" this indicate clutch being in a good nick still... but probably the pressure plate is shot.
Have had a new clutch kit fitted by a local transmission specialist and the car now drives perfectly with super smooth gear changes. Thanks for the help. (y)

I would like to offer a professional, comprehensive and nationwide repair service for an I-shift system/clutch actuator in your Civic or Jazz if it becomes faulty.

If you encountered one of the following:
  • cog wheel symbol popped on a dash display during driving, but disappeared after engine restart (see pic)
  • unable to select gear from neutral ("N" flashing)
  • gearbox stuck in gear/reverse
  • flashing "A" symbol and unable to start the engine
  • you have a diagnosed error P0810

then you have an issue with your I-shift system, most likely clutch actuator and/or gear actuators.
I have repaired many Civics that suffered dreaded I-shift problems, never had any complaints or problems appeared again.

I offer a repair guaranteed for three months using genuine Honda parts where applicable.
I will flush and bleed the system and after repair - perform static and dynamic learning of the Engine Control Module using Honda diagnostic system.
I will also run a full check for any other errors stored in the car's computer.

Repair takes approx. 5-6 hours and all I need is some room around you car and an access to a power outlet.
Repair is done for £320 all inc. + fuel expenses (£0.4 per mile travelled)

Due to work commitments I can only do the repairs during weekends.

If you are interested, please drop me a private message including car details and a brief description of the problem.
Thanks

Hi all, Apologies for the first post being one asking for help.
Ive not long owned a 57 plate civic 1.8 petrol with 96k on the clock. As I was driving home yesterday in the snow, I noticed when in auto mode the car gear indicator would display an 8 segment, at the same time this would be followed by a lack of power when the accelerator was pushed and a lack of ability to change gears.
This would come and go intermittently usually as I was heading over a rough bit of road and or an incline. Finally the yellow cog with an exclamation mark appeared.

This morning the car is still indicating the yellow cog and with not indicate any gear or start. I’m yet to confirm the fault codes but believe I may be experiencing the same issue as a lot of others here have with the clutch actuator.
I’ve also read that standard cheap vagcom an equivalent will not have the access to the correct parts of the tranissiom to confirm this. Any help appreciated.

I have Honda Civic EX Automatic 2008 Model,

Cog wheel symbol popped on a dash display during driving, and vehicle went to neutral, the gear was not changing, I just removed the battery ground terminal and pushed it back, the display turned to 8 and vehicle stopped cranking, after few try on starting the battery got exhausted, I took help of some other car and tried jump start and after 15 min of trying the jump start worked, I am not sure if its a battery issue or with the gearbox. I have ordered new battery online, which will be reaching me on 16th, once the car is started there is no error pops up on the dash. with your experience can you identify if its battery issue only or its gear box?

Hi. Most likely a fault within the gearbox/actuators.
Thanks

Hi Dan - I have also sent you an email using the email address supplied above.
I only have praise for the Wizard Dan - he has sorted our Civic i-drive by replacing the actuator with a refurbished one, changed and bled the clutch fluid and updated the software. After an 80 mile drive I can confirm it is working perfectly.

If your Civic needs this repair, I can highly recommend him (automobilklub)

He also mentioned I have 25% clutch material left so good for anther 30k miles I guess as the car has 120k on the clock.
