Like stated in this teh funnay review, Honda Civic is the choice of the grampas and grammas in the UK. Interestingly enough, it's exactly the opposite in Finland. It's one of the favorite cars among young vocational students who like to tune up their cars with fluffy dice and chassis kits.

Any explanation for this, er, cultural phenomenon?

It's true. Not that many Saxo's and Fiesta's here.
Certainly not enough to warrant the kind of reputation they have over there.

Here it's Mazdas and Nissans for the older folk if they can't afford their dream car, which of course is a Mercedes.
And most can not.
