So the Silverstone meet is next week, which prompted me to do something about my disgustingly dirty car. It hasn't had more than a handwash since I bought it, just couldn't be bothered to break out the polish over winter. Also, every time I look closer at the paintwork, I die a little inside. Horrible orangepeel effect, and looks like the previous owner used to wash it with a wire brush.

Voila, dirty, scratched car:

I also realised just how bad the paintwork is on the front of the car. Looks like I've been peppered with machine gun fire.

So after a quick wash with Bilt Hamber Autowash (great stuff) I gave her a good claying (BH soft clay). Clearly the first time it'd been done, should've seen the state of the bar when I'd finished.

So then I attacked her with some Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine (you were right Liv, smelled lovely, like apples, lol). Afterwards, I applied a liberal coating of BH Autobalm. I was a tad overzealous, and nearly wore my arms out trying to buff the stuff off. It's great stuff, but use too much and you're done for

So, the finished product. First, another shot of that scratched wing I showed you when we begun our journey... Still not great, but a big improvement.

And, a few gratuitous reflection shots. Shame about the orangepeel, but nothing I can do about it unfortunately.

Aaaaaaand, the finished product. I'd like to dedicate this little detailing session to LVY, who demanded I put at least 5hrs work into my car today, lol.

Get orrf me paintwork!

good effort it will need a proper polish to get those swirls out, might be worth paying for a full detail as a one off, also stain your fog lamp blanks!
Yeah, I was thinking that. Though I have got a rotary polisher that I've never used, but I'm afraid the soft Honda paint will just evaporate the second it goes near it... I've got plans for the blanks, lol, gonna take them out and stick some mesh in there, just haven't had the chance. By my reckoning it'll cool the engine down at least 180%, and gain me in the region of 72bhp ;)

Lvy will love the reflection pics ;)
Yeah, mostly cos it's my reflection in them

100% better than the first couple pictures good work. Your tyres look a little low on the front unless they are mega low profile, if so i feel sorry for your backside.

Yeah they're the wrong profile unfortunately, and the front passenger one is flat, lol. 205/40/17 instead of 225/45/17. Gonna get new tyres, but it'll have to wait a few days til I get paid

Strangely, the rears are the same (wrong) profile, but seem fine. Though I know the diesel is nose-heavy, I didn't think it was THAT nose-heavy.

That last pic looks great, well done Johnny. :D
Was this you first experience of using clay? I only ask because i have not personally used it before but am considering giving it a go, so just wondering how easy you found the process.
I think the mesh insert with silver bezel fog light blanks would look really good on your car...give it an eye catching contrast in colour.
They are around £20 each from a Honda dealer.

Nah, used it before on my Accord, but it's really easy to do. The Bilt Hamber stuff only needs water to lubricate it while you clay, but some need QD so just check before you buy it.

Like I said earlier got plans for the blanks, gonna cut some mesh to fit myself, just haven't got round to it yet
