My June 2018 Civic Sport has developed clutch judder at 6500 miles. Its not overly bad but I can feel it and its gradually getting worse.

The judder happens when taking off in first gear from standstill and when changing down from third gear to second gear. Its worst in stop start driving in heavy traffic.

When the car is cold, i.e. first thing in the morning the clutch operates perfectly smooth, the judder starts to appear after around ten miles when the car has thoroughly warmed up.

Strangely when the car was new it had a very slight clutch judder when taking off in first gear, but after 700 miles the judder went away.

My dealership has sent a report to Honda UK, they are pushing to receive a reply / action before the car goes in for its first service on 30th May. The service manager at my dealership has been very good and is keeping me updated on the situation.

The Civic Sport is a good car to drive, decent handling, nippy, good on fuel, comfortable on long journeys, but this clutch issue has really dampened my enthusiasm for the car.

This is my first Honda, for the last 26 years I have owned Mazda cars with no issues to speak of, better the devil you know????

Will keep this post updated in order to help anyone else who may have the same issue.

get it booked in
its still under warranty
my 2015 civic 1.6 is going in first week in june for clutch/flywheel check/replacement under warranty
they have said almost certain they will change them
I only get a bit of judder when cold/damp

Clutch Judder

Following my post on 15th May re clutch judder. the car went in for its first service today, the dealership acknowledged slight clutch judder on my car when taking off in 1st gear from standstill and when changing down from 3rd to 2nd gear. The clutch judder only starts after the car is thoroughly warmed up i.e. after 10 to 15 miles.

Honda Uk have asked the dealership to test my car back to back with another 1.5 Sport Turbo. Their sport demonstrator was out on loan today, so the test will be carried out next week.

Sods law - the judder has not been so prevalent during the last two weeks.

It will be interesting to see what the dealers Sport Turbo clutch is like compared to my car.

At least the issue has been logged with Honda UK for the future.

Not noticed anything on my sport, 67 plate with about 13k on the clock.

Will keep an eye out though and see if mine starts at any point (or if it has already and I just haven't been paying attention to it)

If I were to accelerate 'smartish' - as in fast, but not like I stole it - I get judder.

I got it with my 8G diesel, now with this 10G Prestige.
Not huge, but difficult to avoid without 'dropping' the clutch to engage 100% instantaneously - which I'm not going to do.

I think part of this is technique, but part is definitely these crappy, modern-age DMF's.

I NEVER had a problem with any of the many and varied cars I've had in the past - with then-normal SMF's.

10G 1.5 Turbo Sport clutch judder

Yesterday I drove from Peterborough to the Morgan factory in Malvern for a factory tour, a 250 mile round trip. There was no clutch judder at any time during the journey.

The clutch judder basically eased off 2 weeks before the first service at 8500 miles.

Very Strange!

As per my previous post, the issue is logged with Honda UK. All I can do is monitor it.

This happens to mine too, some days its terrible and others no problems at all, its been into dealers and they just said basically honda will say its down to driver error and i will probably foot the bill.

My dealership basically implied the same.

If they stripped the clutch down and no issues were found, I would have to foot the bill. If an issue was found, Honda would pay.

I have a 2010 Mazda MX5 with 30,000 miles on the clock and the clutch is as smooth as silk. Have owned Mazda's since 1993 and have never had a problem. My Civic is now 12 months old, at 2 years I will be changing it for a new Mazda 3.

The Civic is a good car to drive and excellent on a long run, but the clutch issue spoils the ownership experience.

Clutch Judder 1.5 Sport Turbo

So, an update.

My 2018 Civic Sport Turbo has now covered 11,000 miles. The clutch judder has not happened since the 8,500 mile mark.

It seemed to go away after a number of long journeys and being driven quite hard.

it will most likely return in the cold damp weather
its caused by some grease/oil that's inside the flywheel
it leaks out and contaminates the surface of the flywheel
as soon as it starts again get it back to dealers I got mine replaced under warranty

The weather has turned damp and cold, the clutch judder has not returned, the judder basically stopped at the 8,500 mile mark, the car has now covered 13,500 miles and drives better and better as more miles go on the car.

My Sport has no judder at all but when I took out the dealers demo the judder was terrible,this was back in June 2018.
