Hi everyone this is my first ever time on here!

I have a honda civic 2.2 diesel 2006 which has just had the EGR valve and intake manifold cleaned etc. So I got it back from my mechanic but it now has the engine light on and has gone into limp mode. It is driving perfectly but obviously doesn't go above 2000 RPM. It has been hooked up to diagnostics and I think has come up with code P1600! If anyone can give me any advice on what to do or what it may be it would be appreciated! Could a sensor have just been knocked and if so where? I'm by no means a mechanic and don't really have a clue!

Thanks in advance!

You think it's a P1600?... I'd read it again to be certain of the DTC. I've looked, but it's not clear what P1600 is. Did you try to reset the DTC after reading it, and did it then return? Obviously a sensor (or connector) somewhere might have been affected by the work, but - as already mentioned - don't make this your problem... take it back and complain nicely!!!

Thanks for the replies! Well the mechanic drove it back and it was running absolutely fine. Just when I came to start it back up it came on. To be fair he's been really good about it & has got it booked into an auto electricians because he said that the code indicates that it could be the glow plugs? But if not what sensors could have been triggered/knocked during the initial work? Thanks again

We dont know wht he did to access the EGR and clean it.
I removed the airbox and battery and disconnected MAP MAF TPS sensors.. boost pipe to the airbox at the back...and the vacuum lines...replaced all gaskets
Who knows what your mechanic removed :dontknow:
Honda will tell you exactly what the code means.

This is probably going to be another stupid question but if he didnt disconnect MAP MAF TPS sensors would this have caused a problem like I am experiencing? Like I say the car drives fine apart from being in limp mode! the mechanic has been sound with us though and is taking it to a auto electricians soon anyway so I take it they will be able to find and fix the fault hopefully!

Good luck with the auto electrician and please do let us know what the problem actually was.

My mechanic has taken it to run the diagnostics with the auto electricians so should find out the route of the problem tomorrow (i.e what the code it actually comes out with means)! will keep you all posted!

Thanks Grayfox! So my update is that the codes that have been read by the last auto electrician are that it needs a system update? So I need to book it in with honda! So I got on the blower to them and have just dropped it off, so hopefully it should all be fixed by tomorrow afternoon! Fingers crossed! One thing that the honda mechanic did say is that my car shouldn't really need an update with it only being an 06 plate diesel or something to that effect? But they will hook it up to thier computer and see what the issue is. Do the civics generally need updating?? To be honest I'm really lost with all this!

So could it mean that it does need updating? It's just that the guy at honda didn't seem to think it would be? And what exactly do they do when they update the car? Thanks for all your help relic!

They connect HDS to the car and the main honda file service.
Click a button and it does its thing.

You dont normally get errors cos and ecu needs updating though ;)
So I dont understand that bit

Thanks relic! Another question I'm afraid, just got back from honda they have updated software etc & it isn't that! But they have found out that it is my glow plugs! They have quoted me £230 to fix it does this seem reasonable? and if I was to go else where to get them replaced would they have to be programmed into the computer etc. or am I just best off letting honda do the work? Thanks again for the replys!

You go somewhere else and you wont get honda plugs.
If you dont get honda plugs you'll get errors ;)
Already happened before.

They dont need programming...thats the injectors for flow rate calculation and compensation.
