My wife has a 2006 Civic EX, purchased 6 months ago from Franchised Dealer, so is still under a Honda warranty.

Over the last few months, the engine management light has come on, and then gone off by itself.

Honda have said today that it requires a new coolant temperature sensor (which is covered under warranty), however to change it, they also have to change the electric mirror motor (!) as its all part of the same unit !

This part is apparently not covered under warranty, so they want to charge her.

Seems bizzare to me - anyone got any advice ?

first try a different main dealer in case this one is being awkward, failing that speak to honda uk and ask them for their advice, they will also provide this in writing or contact your dealer direct.
if all else fails then price at an independent garage in case the whole lot is cheaper to pay to have done yourself?

If its the coolant temperature sensor this part fits in the radiator so the dealer is way out on this.

The only other sensor that reads temp is the ambient temperature sensor that relays data to the dash/ climate systems and is located on the front bumper.

Find a new mechanic I say :)

It is the coolant temperature sensor, and they claim that the wiring is corroded, and part of that wiring includes the folding mirror motor, and they won't cover this item under the warranty.

I think another dealer might well be the way to go.
