That’s your rear tow hook, I have heard on the civic fn2 you can also use it as a jacking point, don’t know about CRV though, but yeah it’s the rear tow hook.

Probably depends what kind of recovery you mean - for "normal" recovery onto a flatbed then yes that is what it is for, but for any kind of off road recovery I'd be wary, particularly any kind of kinetic recovery. Same type of setup on the Freelander 2 - not really designed as an off road recovery snatch point.

That point is indeed a jacking point for the 9th Gen Civic, may be the same on a CRV - but I'd make very sure before I jacked from there.

Yes it's for recovering the car. But a CRV cannot be towed on a 3.5T recovery van. You wouldn't really want it on anything under 7.5T backwards anyway. The load is more even with the engine up front.
