I'm noticing with my fn2 type r gt that when i'm in a low gear, 1-3 the car will deaccelerate rather sharply to zero if i do not have my foot on the accelerator.
To further clarify- the deaccelearation appears to come from the revs that are in the engine, however it seems somewhat excessive when you're just at 3k revs compared to what most cars do...albeit i'm not sure if this is normal given it's a highly strung car?
Also-the accelerator has a feather light touch, thus i barely need to depress it to keep the car moving along at e.g. 30 in third, so it isnt a major issue, but it quite annoying?
I know what the OP is explaining. I know all about engine braking but in my FN2 the engine braking is excessive in all gears but the first 4 is really severe. Fourth gear at 30mph especially.
On a motorway I don't even need to use brakes. The worst thing though is when you're trying to keep a steady space and momentarily come off the accelerator, get the excessive engine braking, then apply some throttle. You get this po going effect, your body going forward, then backwards, but you're not really braking or flooring it.
My EP3 never did this, the FN2 I test drive didn't do this, yet the dealer say there is nothing wrong. I think there is definitely something wrong with the clutch.
Doesn't sound like clutch to me, sounds more like a brake dragging, how many clicks does your handbrake go up? Should be 7 or 8 according to Honda specs.
Easiest thing to do is raise the car off the ground a wheel at a time, and see if you an spin the wheels easily (handbrake off, wheels chocked).
Diesel only has 2.2 liters moving upto 4000 rpm
R has 2.0 liters moving upto 8000rpm.
The type R is going to suffer about twice the flow resistance....or is that the square of the speed which wil be 4x.....brain dead today
So yeah the engine braking will be immense compared to the diesel.
thanks guys - it does feel like engine breaking, just wasnt sure since it was so much more than my old civic sport. Rest is fine - since in neutral it will role unrestricted for miles.
And yeh, haha, it does save on break pads. Gutting though, just sliced a good bit of alloys with a tragic curb....
