I had a bit of a worrying moment this morning to see two police cars around my Type R and then seeing a police officer get out of one of them swiftly followed by a camera man!

Fortunately it was not me that they were interested in talking to. It was my neighbor. They had decided to start their car to defrost it and go inside while it was in progress. The Police had sat outside watching it for over two minutes, plenty of time for someone to make off with it. Unfortunately just this morning two cars had already been stolen in the area, due to people doing exactly the same thing. This warning has probably already been posted many times before, but it doesn't hurt to remind people again.

So, please don't leave your running car unattended whilst trying to defrost it. It might not be there when you decide to check on it and you will probably find that any insurance claim is a nightmare if the unimaginable does happen.

That is why I recommend everyone to have one of these Defa Warm-up, even in the UK. They are absolutely necessary here in Finland and defrost the car in a very short time. Even in -30°C, I put it on in the morning for about an hour an a half (on a timer) and when I get in to go to work, the car is lovely and warm, and no ice on the windows. Great! And the electricity cost is not noticeable.

Great Idea.
Unfortunately I live in shared communal courtyard accessed off road.
So that cable would need to be about 50m long and run the risk of people tripping over the cable.

Shame :(

I'm sure it's illegal to leave a car running, without someone being with it :popcorn2:

Do you happen to have a picture of your car fitted with the plug-in for the Defa WarmUp heater ? I am interested in how they fit the plug-in adapter for 230V cable.

It is actually a very small socket on the front bumper (you hardly even notice it) and then the cabling goes through the engine compartment and attaches to the engine heater element for engine warming, then into the passenger footwell where the socket is fitted for the interior heater. I don't have any photos at the moment, but have attached a pdf fitting manual so that it gives you an idea. A garage can fit something like this in an hour or so.

only two cars of police with not a lot to do ...no van also ? .... deep cuts setting in already then

anyone who leaves their car running by itself deserves to have it nicked imo :worms: would personally prefer to spend couple of quid of car cover

Thank you. Regarding the socket in the front bumper - does it require modification to the bumper or is there a way to fit it without damaging the bumper ?

A hole is drilled in the bumper (actually mine is in the grey trim) and you really cannot notice it normally.
