Hello

I have to chose a new company car soon. I have 2 choices - An Audi A4 2.0 TDie model or take the cash and buy an Accord 2.2 DTEC EX.

I really like the accord but this new Audi has excellent MPG. If I decide to get the Accord, I will buy one 2 years old (2008) plate if I can find one for less than £18k.

I test drove both cars recently. The Audi felt great, but the Accord also vey good. Excellent interior. MPG wasn't very good...could not get it above 47MPG on motorway. The new Audi managed 70MPG !

Does anyone know of any issues with the new Accord ?

Advice appreciated.

The 2.0 TDi engine supersedes the early 1.9 unit to take power and refinement to the next level. Using VW’s highly acclaimed PD injection system and the latest Siemens PPD ECU controllers, the stock outputs on these are impressive even as standard. With 2025 bar injection pressure these engines produce high torque at low loads and enable great gains to be had from tuning. The 167bhp (170PS) variant easily achieves 211bhp with little effort, for those wishing to achieve more we have the knowledge and skills to take these to the 300bhp figure.

I'd get the 170PS 2.0 PD...the new VAG engines are running seriously high fuel pressure. Other cars just cant compete after remapping.

Outside of performance theres the boring factor.
But each to there own.

I looked at the Golfs and passats...and fell asleep just looking at it.
Boooooooooooooring!
The only exception is the 3rd gen scirocco from the outside.
The inside is better but still bland.

Yeah, but it doesn't have an H on the bonnet or in the grill. I'd definitly go for the Accord.

Nick,

Have a look on Spritmonitor and you'll see that the average mpg for both cars (assuming 2008) is exactly the same at 46 to 47.

In my experience both are good - but the Audi has a stronger, coarser engine, with a high price and slightly lumpy ride. The Accord is weaker, smoother, lots more kit for the price, better looking and rarer.

The only issues of note with the i-DTEC Accord that I know of are the speakers have a habit of blowing, and the early engine software was a bit poor (speakers are a warranty job and the engine software is done by the dealer in a few minutes).

A friend of mine sampled an Accord when I had one (last year) and immediately sold his Lexus. Saw him the other day and apparently 6 of his work colleagues (all also on company cars) have changed their BMWs and Audis for.... Accords!

I think this one is down to personal taste.
So, try to have a couple of good test drives in each.

The A4 is not a bad car, but personally I just don't like them and would have chosen the Accord ever time.

I would think that Total Cost of Ownership is going to be lower in the Accord.

Hello All

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. The A4 2.0 TDie is the new eco common rail model (Audi A4 2.0 TDIe | First Drives | Car Reviews | Auto Express). It really was a great drive and much, much better than the S Line version - which i thought was too harsh. Anyway, I will make my mind up in the next few days. Difficult decision either way. I just dotnt want to have any hassle if I choose the Accord..it must be 100% reliable and no problems in the 3 years I will own it.

As I said earlier..If its the CR then its a great engine..smooth, quiet and powerful.
Personally, I would choose the audi over the Accord...but I am biased..I have a 2.0 CR VAG engine in mine:)
PS...The paint is much much better on an Audi

H on the bonnet or 4 rings...who cares [smilie=romanjury.g:.... its about the quality of build, performance & the cash one will save, i.e repairs & fuel :popcorn2:so having had one before I can only recommend its the big germeen tank ;)

If you are after reliability I think the Accord is a better bet than the Audi.
In my experience, this is absolutely right. But then I am not a statistically large group!

My A4:
Aircon failed. Twice.
Quattro torsen diff failed.
2 areas of paint about 4" in diameter fell off (!)
The engine. Where do I start? Never ran right - was so poor when cold I couldn't get up a slight incline where I lived in second. So had to do the first couple of minutes in first which used to slightly upset people behind me. Kept going back to the dealers for that but it never got fixed (A4 V6 diesel).
Poor gear change, bumpy ride, dead steering, rattled like a 15 year old Astra.

My Accord:
Bought, drove, sold. Perfect.

PS - nothing against VAG; have had a collection of Golfs and all have been good.
