Do new synchromeshes need running in?

My FN2 which I yet to pick up has had its 3rd and 4th synchromeshes replaced because of the infamous third gear popping out issue

the bulk rings in the syncro need bedding in onto the gears . just be gentle and drive normal...... (not your normal).... for a week or so using the gears that have been replaced as normal and it will be ok.... :D

Sorry to hijack but did you mainly get the notchy change when you were changing in anger / VTEC?

Just picked my 07 fn2 and it feels sweet 90% of the time driving normally, it will only occasionally not feel right and crunch or have a double feel. However when giving it some beans it seems much more prominent and really seems to need forcing in! I'm not too sure if engine speed should affect the gear change but this is defiantly the case.

Its never popped out on me yet though, starting to wonder if I just have a dodgy box, I have honda warranty.

Engine speed does make a difference to gearbox and it sounda as if the Bulk rings are worn or faulty...if its a3rd gear issue .. it is a well known problem on 07 ctr and honda are aware... so if you got a warranty I would take it back imo:)

No worries! I randomly get a combination of notchy/crunching and no feedback when changing to 3rd gear. By no feedback, I mean the gearstick would go into 3rd gear too easily as I could not feel the gear engaging. Whenever I felt this, the 3rd gear would pop out most of the time.

My 3rd gear issues usually happened during the first half of the rev range regardless of whether the engine/gearbox is warm or cold :(

Have your local Honda dealership to look at it and see what they say :police:

i tested an R this weekend and thought 3rd gear was terrible (as was the rest of the car tbh) but when stationary if you selected third i could feel the car move slightly...

any ideas ??
i only ask cause i'm looking to buy one hopefully and i know all about honda gearbox problems, but that was new to me !!

sounds like the clutch is dragging.. in other words not fully disengaging making gears are harder to select and when you select when stationary the car can creep or move ... could be adjustment..:D:D

C.B, which synchromeshes did Honda replace for you?

Third and Fourth, honda have been fantastic through it all

Not driven in anger really yet but third feels much better even when granny shifting, in answer to your original question I asked them about running in and they advised just gradually break the gears in over a hundred or so miles
