I have a civic 2.2 deisel type s58 plate 21000 miles do these use oil as I've had this for 4 months now and just had to put 1ltr oil in . Do these have any oil leaks of any kind as no drop on floor but I can see oil residue on gear box under side bu none in belly pan??? Might just be me being paranoid but worth asking.

Some use more and some use less - lots of variables - factory tolerances, and how it was run in being the main impacts ...

Irespective, ALL Diesel engines seem to use more oil than petrol ones ...

Mine drank quite a bit for the first year I owned it, right until I had the major 100k service done and changed oil to top-spec Gulf Competition 0w-30.

It now hasn't drank a drop in two months - go figure.

i put mine down to various boost leaks.......
Another extra cost for the 2.2 ? - my 1.8 uses bugger all oil - and when I've talked to folk like [Bog] they said exactly the same ...

When I had my CTS I was talking to a Honda tech and he told me that the derv can use half a litre every thousand miles.

He said there had been a lot of derv owners bringing their cars back with no oil in them thinking that they had a leak somewhere.

I have spoke to a Honda tech today and yes he said they do use oil but then smiled and said but it's well worth it.at that I replyed to bloody wright. But worried me a bit as my other motor is a disco td5 03 plate and this doesn't use oil which agian is a worry ( a landrover with no leaks ).. But thanks gents feel better now .

Mine doesn't use at all. Used Castrol Edge 0w40 for the last 7 changes. 131.000km now.

But before I removed the DPF, the oil level actually got higher. So much that I started to be worried. The regen cycles are real bad for the condition of the oil. So bad that some cars self ignite. And not just Hondas!

I sent Castrol an oil sample before I removed the DPF because I was worried that an injector leaked because of the rising oil levels.
They said the oil was OK, but it had way too much diesel in it. And I was recommended to replace it as soon as possible. I only drive approx 10k between services. Can't imagine how the oil is when you drive so called "long life" intervals. (VAG, BMW etc)
Another good reason to ONLY use oil with the best quality :)

there will be no need for it your pistons will be hanging out of your heating vents :D
No way! - US 1.8s (same engine) are routinely Turboed - I just want an Euro solution, that won't screw up things like cruise control ...

nah man, good luck with it i hope its well quick, wont do 40mpg round the doors tho ;)
Right now, I have a 300+ Km commute Monday and Friday - 45 MPG

My 1.8 has a very tight engine - I bought it new, with 11 Km (7 Miles) on it - did the perfect running in technique - max revs on the Motolorway 5 minutes later etc.

Today it runs better and smoother than new - TURBO HERE WE COME
