Hi everyone,

I recently had my 2010 Si written off so replaced it with a 2012 2.2 iDtec. Only real fault is that the folding mirror on the driver side isn't working correctly. I've looked at a lot of posts however mine isn't simply not working it is folding in but seems to be overextending so its in but still trying to fold in further. Then when try to fold back out it doesn't.

Any suggestions?

Tony

I've looked quite extensively into issues others have had. I can find a lot of info on 8th Gen but not 9th. The Window does fold in but seems to overextend then refuse to fold back out. If it was the SOD wouldn't it refuse to do anything? I've seen something about a holding pin. I'm tempted to take it to a Honda dealer but on my last Civic there solution was always it seems the most expensive. I'm willing to try the SOD but it's £40 for a replacement and that could be money towards a full new mirror unit.

when I move the window back to position it doesn't lock in. It does however lock in if i push it towards the windscreen.

Really is an odd problem.

Thanks

Tony

I am not conversant enough with the problem to advise further, but I think that the problem is common across all flavours of Civic with power mirrors.

Hopefully someone who is more conversant with the problem can help better than I will be along in a bit.

I had a similar experiencel but on a 8G.

What had happened was that some joker had pushed it partially in when it should have been out.

All I did was force it back out, which produced a ratchet noise, and it was OK from then on.

Your call whether you're happy forcing it.

I've tried that. Pushed it back to where it should sit but it doesn't lock until it's way past where it should be. It then folds in from that position if requested but again doesn't fold out? I'm going to try opening it up today and look inside for any damage etc

from what I've looked at so far it's either the SOD which would mean it either not working at all or working poorly. Or it could be the gear inside meaning it doesn't move correctly? I'm tempted to replace the SOD on the offchance but as I mentioned in an earlier post the window folds in but continues to fold until it clicks then won't fold back out. When the window it folded out it will only lock in when its almost outwards against the windscreen. Really is perplexing.

@He_Who_Is_T, did you solve the problem? I have probably the same problem with the right side folding mirror. After switching on the folding button, the mirror is moving step by step inside, each step is a few milimeters long. I'm thinking to replace only the poly fuse or complete SoD.

hey, not yet. I'm arguing with the seller over paying to replace it as it wasn't listed in the ad for issues. I am tempted to replace the SOD however like I said mine doesn't even lock in until it's folded out almost parallel with the windscreen. I do think it could be a pin as the window does fold in just doesn't stop in correct spot or fold back out.

Even worse had to replace two tires as they'd been dodgily fixed. He's been sent an invoice for that as well lol.

If you decide to go down the SOD route, I run an SOD repair service. I can either repair them at £7.50 per SOD or £1.70 for the fuse. Give me a shout if needed.
