Our new crv (about 6k on the clock) seems to have suffered a recent drop in mpg. DTEC engine, we seem to be hitting 32mpg at motorway speeds where the car would comfortably have cruised at 34-35mpg.

Thought the car may have needed a Dpf regen but a good 1 hr each way motorway journey today hasn't shifted the issue.

One thing I have noticed I'd the car is running at a temp 2 to 3 bars below mid-point on the temp gauge. If the engine isn't running at operating temp it would be drinking more.

So, any ideas on potential problems? What operating temps are people seeing on these?

Thanks

Thanks for that. I'll see what its like when it gets warmer. I still think something is amiss though, it wasn't that cold yesterday (I'm waiting for snow) still!). Plus my car (335d) doesn't get impacted by cold weather, is this just a Honda engine thing?

Had my local Honda dealership take a quick look this morning, they couldn't find anything amiss. Essentially checked the engine for error codes.

So I'm watching to see if it improves back again.

My engine idles higher on cold mornings / starts and I drop MPG too so I wouldnt worry too much either .

So maybe idleing higher and when driving your revs are higher than it would be before maybe? Just trying to put 2 and 2 together lol

i would say weather or rear brakes sticking is the common reason why your mpg drops on the civic

Thanks appreciate the advice. One question, on a dtec crv where is everyone seeing the temp gauge sit at when the car reaches operating temp?

Mine sits 2 to 3 bars below mid-point, which I'm being told is right.

Thought I'd update on this. Fuel economy now back where it was, despite the tempreture being significantly colder than when we noticed the issue (at least 8 c lower). Only thing I can think of is maybe a dodgy tank of diesel which took 2 or 3 tanks to dilute out. Running temp remains unchanged. Odd but happy the economy is back where it was.
