Im new to the honda scene and have noticed some ep3 civics dc5 integra's and fn2 type r's with earthing kits.

Obviously the car has earthing points as standard otherwise it would be a moving welder.

But what benifit does an after market earthing kit give you.???

None, its just engine bling....I doubt you'd even notice any difference.

How does a fried ECU sound ???
How does intermittent electrical faults sound ?

All earths are only as good as the body panel fixing.
And they are only as good as the earth back to the battery.
If the connections are bad you wont get full voltage to the components.

As above though.... if the car is earthed properly you wont see any benefit.

Not unless you short something out :D
Ive only ever seen fried ECU with wiper motors overloading the circuits and stuff like that.
I'll be fitting an earthing kit and voltage stabiliser ar some point as well.
Just to minimise the likelyhood of voltage spikes.

Ow, I see now, that was a reaction to Davek's "pure engine bling" statement. I first thought it was a reply to the thread starter's post... :-D

Can you create a How-To then? :) Because I was also thinking of making an earthing kit for my 2.2 but I'm not such an expert in those things! ;)

This is a set of instructions I put together for the EP3 if it is any help?

Grounding Kit Fitting Instructions

Tools Required
10mm spanner
10mm socket and ratchet
Side cutters / snips



Tips
-Do not cable tie up anything until you have bolted up ALL the connections. This will make the installation quicker and neater
-Make sure you leave nothing loose. i.e. the bolt on the negative terminal and I-Vtec cover.
-Make sure the plastic cover is on the positive terminal as you really don't want to short it out with the ends of the earthing kit.


STEP 0
Undo the nut on the NEGITIVE terminal on the battery and bolt on the ends marked 0. The loom with the number 1 on is best facing the front of the car as seen in the picture below.



STEP 1
Connect 1 to the battery tie bar as shown in the picture above.

STEP 2
Route the rest of the loom around the back of the engine bay and connect 2 to the bulkhead as shown in the pictures below.





STEP 3
Connect 3 in to the top right of the Red rocker cover as shown in the pictures below.





STEP 4&5
Now with the other ½ of the loom, connect 4 into the manifold and 5 into the throttle body as shown in the picture below.



STEP 6
Remove I-Vtec cover and route cable 6 along the plastic brackets and bolt in to the pulley housing as shown in the pictures below.





STEP 7
Use the cable ties to neatly wrap up both looms and cut off the ends.

Thanks for the info, looks neat and tidy, much like the inside of my computer.

Although it didnt help me much as I have the diesel engine which I would imagine is completely different in regards to earthing points:facepalm:

Great howto Loxy, very neat job! The only remark that I could give is that I wouldn't use red cable for ground, but rather blue, or even better black. Red is normaal "hot" or +, so it might be a little confusing. Someone else working at your car might put +12 on it at some point... :eek:
A few extra "rules" when earthing/grounding:
- Avoid daisy-chaining ground connections. Connect them all to one star-point. (Or al least as much as possible.) The best start point in a car is the chassis.
- Make sure for every connection you are making, it does not already exist. In that case you are making ground loops, which may result in "phantom-currents" running through them, causing all kinds of trouble.
- Use some grease on the contact points to avoid corrosion. When 2 different metals are connected (eg steel and copper, or steel and zinc) corrosion may occur, specially on connections that will carry high currents. And there's corrosion by water and salt too off course.

I had the same idea on my FN2.

No would be a good time to sneak into TDI and run off with one of their black rocker covers ;)

i have that problem ive blown sumthink i was changing the rear wipers to my ep3 while the car was running wiper got stuck so i pulled it bak an the car cut out just turned off... i had it checked an *** said it was the ecu so i bought one got it fitted and its not even that wat can i do rele rele need help ... can sumone help me

ive spent so much money on it in the last month car still wont start.
have you tried pressing the reset switch on the right hand side of the dash behind the clip off panel sandwiched between the door
open the drivers door and you will see the panel on the side of the dash
remove it and you will see a black reset switch

give it a try stranger things have happened :)
