Hi
My 2016 9G 1.8 civic with 40.000 km started making this rattling sound coming from the left side.
Don`t know if it coming from the engine itself or from the alternator.
No other symptoms identified

Scheduled next friday to go to the dealership.
Should I be worried can I keep driving the car?

Thanks

Haltamer thanks for putting the video!

Just been at the dealership for it`s 40.000 service. Always been at Honda dealership

Oil levels are ok and belt tension appears fine

Sounds like a mettalic sound

Hmm, found a similar sounding video on Youtube:

The 1.8 Engine is the R18, The 9G Civic should be an R18Z4 to memory - That said, there is a fair amount in common with the R18A2 found in the 8G Civic, and the american 1.8 Engines, so if you see anything under other models it may well apply to you. A bit stumped on definitive causes of the noise; If it was a higher mileage I'd suggest valve clearances or timing chains, but neither should be an issue with such a young engine.

A good trick for identifying sound sources is using a screwdriver, wrench or other such solid item as a stethoscope, as here:

That should help you pin down the origin - Don't get yourself caught in the aux belt though

Haltamer, it really is very similar. But it does not have any feedback :frown2:

Car is still under dealership waranty. But I hope it`s noting serious

I have a 2007 1.8 also and it runs like clockwork

Honda says it`s the alternator tensioner.

I`m making the complain to activate warranty but they claim there are marks in the alternator bolts that can invalidate it

The car never went to another workshop!
