I know this forum is for the 2007+ Type R but I also know alot of people have had the EP3 previously so thought rather than ask over on CTRO and get no reply I'd ask here!

My EP3 is coming up to 100K miles and I'm not sure what to do with it. Apart from a new exhaust, problems with the rear brake calipers sticking and a snapped exhaust manifold stud its been a problem free car but now thinking what I should do with it. Ideally it could do with a new clutch and a gear box rebuild as it crunches into 2nd when cold and being Milano red some of the body panels, like the tail gate have faded.

I remember reading somewhere that at 100K miles you should replace the timing chain and tensioner? Does anyone know if thats all you need to do?

The car is completely standard and now my FN2 is finished I'm tempted to start on the EP3. I know it sounds strange but I've always fancied modding a car using all parts from one particular brand, maybe Spoon?

Do people think its worth while doing on a car thats reached 100K or should I just trade it in for either a lower milage EP3 or perhaps a CRZ?

Go on Dave, post this on CTRO ... It'll be interesting to see what they say about getting a CRZ ;)

EP3's are great cars and if yours is a good runner and done that sort of milage I'm guessing its worth more to you than the actual value if you know what I mean, keep the car and spoon it :)

haha I'm scared to post it over there!

I doubt my EP3 in its current state is worth more than £1K, but like you say its worth alot more to me as I could go buy another car and have nothing but problems.

Old EP3s never die..... They go racing ;)
I could get you 240-250bhp relatively cost effectively out of the EP3 then strip it out and do some trackdays.
Wouldn't worry about chain/tensioner unless it's needed as seen cars with over 180K with originals still on and running fine.

You could always turbo it and come drag racing with us :)

haha I do like the idea of using it for track days, rather than my FN2. When I was at Spa it was always at the back of my mind I'm playing with my pride and joy. I think I'd have enjoyed it more in my EP3 as I'm not as bothered about any damage caused, plus EP3 parts are plentiful!

Without wanting to cause an ep vs fn war.... the ep is a far better base for a track car too.

ii would buy spoon (honda) dc5 pistons 11.5CR, spoon head gasket, spoon valves, spoon valve springs, spoon cams, spoon engine cover and, probably, a worked head.
the most powerfull engine? no. But probably a work of art and a new engine for many years.
that's what i am going to do if stay with the fn2 for more time.
