would one of these destroy a FN2 in a straight line drag or would it be close?

The escort cosworth from 1994 era did 0-60 in 5.7secs while the fn2 does 0-62 in 6.6secs so not really much in it.

That type
had a bit of a race with one on way home from shopping on my personal airstrip *cough cough* i thought they would destroy a FN2
quite surprised it kept up

It could well be, but I saw one on autotrader for £27k producing 227bhp quoting 5.7s so thought that was normal. Funny how it is considered iconic which it is. Because the interior is drab. Mind you the whale tail spoiler was mahoosive. That's nostalgia.....

Just did a zeperfs dual. After 100 mph a fn2 would pull away. Bedford autodrome west circuit the fn2 lapped it 4.8 seconds quicker. Cossie is a beast tuned though.
Not what I was expecting from the title, you mean a Cosworth. My brother used to own an Escort RS many years ago, and it used to surprise Scooby drivers and the like on a regular basis. Needless to say, it was far from standard although it looked fairly standard from the outside. I would be very wary of putting my money on a FN2 against it, but a standard one? The FN2 would destroy it.

The only proper Cossie was the Sierra 500 Cosworth....
Very wrong but if you want to learn the Ford and Cosworth history, it is out there.
Out of all of this, the modern hot hatch can tame an old supercar, such is the pace of development.
It is also good to understand "keeping up" is down to the person in front doing al they need to, not to assume that they were at max attack just to drop you.
I know when I had my EP3 a friend with a 360BHP Escort Cossie was surprised by its ability.
Yesterdays hero, is just that, but cool always stays cool, Mk1 Escort RS to the Mk2 Focus RS IMO.

Those are 2 of my 3 favourite examples of RS. A mk2 escort RS2000 custom completes the holy trinity for me.

It's getting on a bit now, I had an fn2 and now drive the modern era RS and it does indeed destroy it lol
