Although they have the same hp, the turbo diesel has much more torque, but on track we use more high revs so don't know if its noticeable... Perhaps why from 0-60 they are very similar...
Also some say 1.8 turns better due to low weight on the front, since the 2.2 is heavier...
So question is: both stock, which is faster on a track let's say like Nurburgring?

Flywheel torque is fairly meaningless, as this is modified by the gearbox (more so in the higher-geared diesel model).

IF the BHP is the same, then the the heavier diesel model will have a lower BHP/tonne figure and so will be generally less lively.

But the diesel model can easily be made faster fairly cheaply!

Pure grunt only gets you along the boring bits quicker. Handling and balance are just as important, maybe more so.

personally i don't care which one is quicker read about 100 threads on this subject gets a bit boring after a while, 1.8 petrol and 2.2 diesel are totally different in many aspects just enjoy what you have..
