Hi everyone

I'm planning on buying an after-market parking sensor kit to fit front and rear on my Civic - yes, I can park just fine, but having spent a vast proportion of my personal finances on my new toy, I just want to be....a little cautious!

Could anyone possibly help me out with a little info on how to remove the front/rear bumpers (or even if they need to be removed at all) and how to route the wires to the front and connect them to the rear parking light wiring so the system switches on when in reverse.

If you guys can give me enough info for me to feel comfortable taking the drill to my Civic in the knowledge that I can get the sensors in and working and I'm not going to destroy anything, then I will make up a fully photographed how-to when I actually fit them.

Cheers in advance

I had rear parking sensors fitted from new by the Dealer. They were faulty from day one and replaced no prob. All I know is that the bumper had to come off, and that the sensors are wired into the reversing lights. Sorry, thats all I know. 8)

Actually, this is the system I am looking at:

With regards to the front system, it does also connect to the reverse light via a "smart switch" which powers the front sytem for 30 seconds after you have put the car into reverse so that a) you don't need to hardwire a switch into the cabin of the civic or b) it isn't on the whole time, just when you are parking and have knocked the car into reverse

Fitting Parking Sensors

I too am thinking of fitting some parking sensors. There are some quite nice one's that can be bought on Ebay. I am looking at these....

I have no confidence of fitting them myself, so I will ask the dealer if they will fit them for me. I am sure it will cost a lot less than the £390 they want to fit an supply.[/url]

Well, AubreyS, there's still 5 days to go so the cost is bound to rise.

Can they be painted and still function? Black sensors won't look good on your colour.

Them fitting!!! Do they know how to take the rear end apart on a Civic? The body side panels have to be released as well. Do they know where to take the power from, or are they going to void your warranty? I've seen it done; quite a long job if you include the wiring through.

I know it seems expensive for the proper Honda unit but the mechanics have been trained how to do the fitting on a Civic, and where to drill your lovely, expensive, long time waiting for, Civic.

If you had an older car, fine; but not on your nice new Civic. [smilie=smack.gif]

ps: and you've just saved a wad of cash getting a free space saver spare wheel, you lucky devil, (I'm still trying).

They are on a 'Buy It Now' so I can get them at that price. They come in five colours, black, blue, silver, white and gray. I am sure if I take the vehicle to an authorised Honda dealer they will know exactly how to fit them. I'll give them a call before I make the purchase.

Sorry, Aubrey, I didn't scroll down. They look decent enough but get the cost for fitting by Honda and let us know.

You may get a deal for the proper Civic unit if you tell them what the price is on ebay.

MY dealer suggested a local place for getting them fitted as they were much better value than the Honda ones. Didn't matter to me since Honda HQ fitted them for free :)

I just phoned the dealer and the quoted me £160 but I have managed to get them down to £120. Still a lot cheaper than the £390 Honda want to supply and fit the original part. Anyway, I have bought them and will take them to the dealer when they arrive.

Well... I ordered the parking sensors from Ebay yesterday and they arrived this morning. Well impressed!

I took them to the dealers and they said that there will be no probelm in fitting them. Let THEM have the ordeal of removing the bumper and fitting them I say.

I saved £100 on moaning at Honda UK because I don't get a spare wheel and I'm getting one FOC. So that's paid for the sensors.

Anyone know how to remove the rear bumper and whether there is an available hole/grommet to pass thought the sensor cables?

I'm also nervous of pulling/prising off the inner trim - more confidence and a bigger jemmy required?

The kit and camera awaits!

Thanks
