Hi all, I’ve been looking around and even spoke to a few people but still lacking a bit of clarity. I’m wanting to put a new double din head unit into my FN2 GT. It has satnav already. Asked around and people have said I need to get a new dash piece from a regular civic that doesn’t have Nav so it’s flat. As well as this I need to replace the screen so I can still use the climate control. My questions are:
• What would happen if I didn’t replace anything and just put in the new head unit ? - would the OEM nav screen just go black or would buttons on the steering wheel not work, I don’t know.
•Is there any sort of adapter maybe that can sort this issue when installing a new unit to save buying a new dash piece and screen.
Cheers.

If it's anything like my bog standard diesel, I bought a fascia adapter and a new double din radio. I bought a connects 2 harness which enables you to still use the steering wheel controls, there's a topic on here which shows which wires you need to connect for it to work. The connects 2 harness allows my centre display to show date and time, and also the temperature controls. 👍

The satnav display information comes from the stereo, so if you replace the stereo you will loose the centre display. The steering wheel buttons are used (when using a Connects2 adapter) to alter the clock and date for a normal centre clock after a double din has been fitted, and can be set to work for the double din if the patch lead has been fitted and altered to work with the double din.
If you fit a double din I'd replace the centre clock with a standard one (time, date, aircon temps, etc) while you're doing it as you have to remove the triangular bit of dash (worse bit of the job) in front of the clock to get the stereo out anyway.
To get the clock out, pull back the trim above the speedo, then pull the speedo out, remove the triangular dash trim, then the screws on the bottom of the clock, it will then pull out of the dash. You may need the triangular trim for the standard clock.

Yeah I was hoping someone wouldn’t reply with what you said. Looks like it’ll have to be a big project then and I deffo need to put a couple days away for it since I’m no mechanic lmao. You do have to replace the triangle dash piece if you change the screen because the fitment becomes really weird if you don’t. Looks like I need to save up as well as find a CTR that’s being sold for parts, bloody Honda lmao

It’s not a bad job to do (other than the bit in front of the clock) (hate that bit 😬) there's some great videos on YouTube that help.
I also found removing the glove box helped with sorting the wires out at the back of the headunit when pushing it in, and for fitting/hiding the WiFi and GPS antennas.
A disc less headunit will also be easier to get in as they aren't as deep, and give you more space for the wires and Connects2 adapter.

It'll look like this if you change the clock as well, you should be able to get a secondhand one off ebay fairly easily (just make sure it's the red display for the Type-R) and if you're feeling brave you can resoldered the pins in it to stop the loss of the digits at a later date.

Cheers mate, really helpful for once, people tend to miss steps when explaining this. Weirdly looking forward to doing all this, got a new cat-back being fitted in April tho so this should be nice summer project (pain of being 19 and having to save up again) hoping nothing mechanically with car goes wrong.
