Hi all. I have been offered some used fn2 (type r) springs at a good price and want to use them to lower my fk3 (2.2 diesel) with. Ive heard that maybe you arent supposed to use the petrol model springs on the diesel because they are too soft and the diesel engine is too heavy. Is there any truth to this? Anyone done it? Had any issues?

There is truth in this. Eibach make different springs for the diesel and petrol that both lower the car the same amount. How much differance in makes, I have no idea.

The diesel version has a higher spring rate on the front to be able to handle the extra weight of the engine. It's the same reason the MeisterR's need to have 10mm pre-load on the front when you fit them to the diesels.

The softer springs on the diesels will mess the handling up and the suspension on the front will bottom out far too easily.
