Just changed my gearbox oil yesterday to redline mtf as recommended by opine oils. I have noticed that there is a noticeable whine in 2nd gear between 15-25mph and in 4th gear between 30-40mph. Never used to happen prior to the change. The change took the full two, two litre bottles but not sure if that was enough?

Has anyone else experienced these problems when changing to this oil?

On the plus side, it's almost cured the third gear problem :)

Thanks for any advice in advance

I wouldn't worry about it. Mine has always whined in 2nd and a little in 4th. I suspect your old oil was deadening the noise a bit. Was the oil that came out a bit thicker than the new stuff? Was it cloudy or clear?

Either way, as long as it feels good it should be ok.

EDIT: You did put 1.9L in, right? :)

Im glad you posted this as mine whines a lot lot more since using the red line to the point where I was starting to think it was doing the box no good, the changes are excellent but the bottle says will reduce gearbox whines

Both litre bottles were put in so two litres went in.

The old stuff that came out was totally black and quite thick so definitely needed a change.

Maybe in just panicking over nothing but the whine certainly wasn't there before the change.

They're not 1L bottles ;)

Us Quarts which equate to .946 of a litre

I'm changing my oil to Redline stuff, what's everyone using to fill the box with?

Yeah I used 2 bottles of redline the changes are excellent now and made a massive improvement on hondas mtf, its odd some gearboxes are fine with hondas mtf but quite a few are now changing due to shift issues me included not sure why they would act different

So if the gearbox needs 1.9 litres I haven't put in enough?

You should have a drain plug, fill level plug and a filling plug.
The fill level plug should be open while you fill up using the fill plug.
When the oil comes out the fill level plug you have put the right amount in ;)
Then put the two plugs back.

Must be level ground obviously

I've got this redline oil sat here waiting to go in. In a bit reluctant to use it now.

Don't get me wrong, it's vastly improved my gear changes. Just have that faint whine in certain gears. Would appear to be normal with redline.

It's not that it's normal with Redline.. it's normal full stop. Mine whined with Honda's MTF3 and now with AMSoil MTF ;)
